VB or MB w/teens...which would be better?

We%26#39;ve taken our sons (16 %26amp; 18) to Myrtle Beach, which they loved. Can%26#39;t decide if we should go back there or try Virginia Beach. How do they compare? What would make Virginia Beach better ~ it is a closer drive for us. Thanks for your help!

VB or MB w/teens...which would be better?

I live about 1 1/2 hours from Va Beach and 5 from MB. My choice is always MB. Don%26#39;t get me wrong I have spent many a day in VB but there is so much more to do in MB. The lodging seems to be better too. VB does have a ampitheater you can check the dates to see if there is a concert going on there or at the Naval base. You can drive to nearby towns like Williamsburg to check out bush gardens a theme park. They have an aquarium but it would be for much younger kids. The teens would like the boardwalk in VB. You can walk at nite and the streets are crowded and you can check out the shops. Have some great malls in VB. If just really depends on how much time you spend doing all the tourisy stuff at MB or if you spend more time at the beach. The teens will like being able to hang out on the boardwalk. I still take day trips to VB but I like to spend my vacation in MB

Yes, it depends on what they like.

Va Beach has the homes in the Sandbridge area, Virginia%26#39;s outer banks. And the condos, homes and hotels in the resort area continuing up north.

There are several individual stages on the boardwalk for nightly summer entertainment; the professional Beach Street USA performers one block off the ocean; several festivals and concerts all summer long in the area as well as on the boardwalk, many bringing big names.

Since it%26#39;s a city in it%26#39;s own right and not only tourist driven, there%26#39;s lots of stuff any city has...from the culture to the architecture, gardens, the historic as well as the nature activities.

Check out www.vbfun.com and www.beachstreetusa.com for events during the time of your stay.

Check on the articles at the ';things to do'; option along the left here. This Family Travel article will be helpful: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g58277-s401/Virginia-…

The Boardwalk is terrific for walking, jogging, you%26#39;ll see moms with those big wheel baby carriages fast walking; great for skating, biking, fun in the surries with the fringe on top.

I think it%26#39;s very wide and the surries and bikes have their own landscaped path. The ocean is, in some places, about 300%26#39; out...so lots of great sand to walk, run and play in.

Explore the Boardwalk. You will see the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum in the historic DeWitt Cottage at 11th, one of the oldest on the oceanfront;

The Virginia Legends Walk at 13th off the Boardwalk; honoring Virginians who have made important national and world contributions in their lives;

The Fishing Pier at 15th and the boardwalk;

a fun sort of old school amusement park is at 15th...I say ';old school'; in that it%26#39;s not one of the mega hyper commercial ones.

The Old Coast Guard Station at 24th and the Boardwalk in the historic 1903 Life Saving Station cottage.

The Naval Aviation Monument is at 25th and the Boardwalk. It is actually many bronze sculptures paying tribute to Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard from the early 1900s to the present. There are laser-etched granite storyboards since this is outdoors so you know what you%26#39;re looking at. The sculptures are of people in outfits from the period...real people...depicting significant events in history.

Hi,

You can tell by my screen name which beach I recommend! Hands down, Virginia Beach wins, expecially with teenagers. The Boardwalk is the best, with free bands out in the evening all along the length of it. There is surfing down by Rudee Inlet (5th Street) with surfboard rental available at the shops. There is a small amusement park on the Boardwalk, the amphitheater which brings in big name concerts (but is a 15 minute drive from the tourist area), and the boys can bring their rollerblades and skate on the bike path. The beach is every bit as nice as Myrtle, clean, wide, with lifeguards. There is a comedy club, aquarium, kayak tours (through the aquarium), and festivals most weekends during the summer. (Check the website listed by another responder). Plus, it is much closer to you than Myrtle - you%26#39;ll get a whole extra day at VB instead of in the car. I encourage you to try it and do your own comparison!

Thank you so much for all the helpful information! Time to sit down with the boys and see what they think ~ looking at the websites has been helpful as well. I am sure to have more questions if we choose Virginia Beach. Thanks for your help!

Yolanda, what time frame are you thinking of coming and we can be even more specific?

Our trip would be June 21 through June 26

My teens love both, but prefer VB because we usually do a day trip to Busch Gardens, about an hour away

You%26#39;ve probably already done this. When you pull up www.vbfun.com click on ';free things to do'; and ';a dozen kid pleasers'; (which are for teens too).

You%26#39;ll see from the entertainment option that you will be between two events but depending when you arrive/leave you might catch some of both.
