Williamsburg to ORF

We have 5:45 AM Frid flight out of Norfolk. we will be in Williamsburg the night before.

I am wondering when we should leave Williamsburg. Airlines keep saying arrive 2 hours early. Is that needed on a Frid morn in Norfolk? 3:45 AM seems very early.

In Portland we have many flights out 6:30 to 8 AM so airport is very busy then. Our flight out of Portland is 6:30 AM and we plan to arrive at 5AM.

Looks like about an hour drive from WMB to airport. Is that right?

The biggest issue is the HRBT - at that time of morning unless it is an unusual event you should make it in :45.

Personally I would arrive at 5am - it takes about 10 minutes to get from the garage to the security area. I don%26#39;t check luggage and unless going overseas always willing to cut it close. ask yourself - if you missed your flight is another flight soon thereafter? how much of a chance are you willing to take?

if you don;t arrive early what else would you do? sleep? is an hours worth of sleep worht the chance? only you know.

ORF is not bust at 5am, the interstate should be clear, the tunnel could back up.

are you driving? know the MMT alternate route ahead of time - if as you approach the HRBT the signs say there is a wait immediately detour at 664 to the MM - no need to take a chance.

Thanks you added an hour of sleep to our agenda. Am willing to take a little risk, but not much. but knowing airport not real busy helps and I had figured over an hour for the drive.
