Official CW walking ghost tours are tips expected?

We are scheduled for a ghost tour and a lanthorn tour and read something somewhere that in other areas of the country (Gettysburg was mentioned) a tip is expected after a ghost tour. I had not thought about this and was wondering what the custom is at CW. Thanks!

Official CW walking ghost tours are tips expected?

No, no tips for the CW tours.

Official CW walking ghost tours are tips expected?

we always tip. good service deserves one. of course it is your personal chocie if you tip or not - many do not tip for service.

We just took the Ghosts Among Us tour. We were led to 3 different houses by one person but the stories were told by 3 other people. Who would you have tipped in that case Bridgefan1?

When we visit Key West, the guides are very straightforward about wanting tips. They are expected and we do tip. We didn%26#39;t notice any mention of tipping before during or after our walk in CW. I agree, go with what you feel. It never hurts to offer.

The CW Tavern Ghost Walk guides conduct the entire tour and they do receive tips. They are not allowed to solicit them, but they may accept them. We have always tipped on the ghost walk and noticed many others do, too.

Hope this helps.

I%26#39;m curious, is the Ghost Tours included in your purchase price?

No, they are a separate ticket item.

Are Leesburg and Lightfoot the same city???

Are Leesburg and Lightfoot the same city???

There is an area of Williamsburg called Lightfoot. Not sure if maybe that is the area you are looking for? Can you give some more specifics on what you are looking for, or how/where Lightfoot was referenced, so we could better assist you?

Are Leesburg and Lightfoot the same city???

There is a restaurant in Leesburg called The Lightfoot.

I was curious because some towns changed their names waaaaay back when. Leesburg was once named George Town but embraced the Lee family in its name when it became the county seat sometime after 1758.

Otherwise as far as I know Lightfoot and Leesburg are sort of on opposite ends. As someone already asked, I%26#39;d be interested to know how you are connecting the two names for the same city.

Recommended Reservations for Pony Penning Week?

We%26#39;re coming in the Sunday before Pony Penning and leaving the next Saturday and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for things to get deposits on and reserved? We%26#39;ve got a charter for watching the pony swim and bike rentals for the whole week, but what else? It%26#39;s two adults and a right at two-year-old boy. Looks like there%26#39;s a cool playground, but I%26#39;m guessing no reservations needed there.

Recommended Reservations for Pony Penning Week?

You have a place to stay reserved? That%26#39;s about all that%26#39;s required. Have a good time!

Recommended Reservations for Pony Penning Week?

Basically this is the most crowded week of the year on Chincoteague. You will need reservations at restaurants and any activity will have a short wait - but the island is never as crowded as a major resort.

You can find lists of restaurants and reserve a couple of days in advance. If you want a riding lesson at the Pony Centre reserve early.

The main thing is to have a confirmed place to stay and if you want to see the swim a charter. Bring warm clothes to wear -- when you leave for the swim it will be dark and cool -- wear swimsuits underneath. Bring warm drinks for the first part of your wait, and cold drinks for the last part -- you will be out on the water for at least 4 hours and maybe longer.

It is a busy time, but we were there for Pony Penning week in 2007, and had reservations for AJ%26#39;s on the Creek. All other times we walked in and were seated within minutes for dinner, and never had a wait for lunch. That%26#39;s why I said if you have a place to stay, you don%26#39;t really need other reservations.

We were there two different years in kayaks. Its a fun week. The crowds start thinning out after the swim. Make sure you get to see the ponies in the pens after the swim. Its a rare opportunity to see them all. Also on Friday the swim back is fun but has only 30 or so ponies.

It think its on Monday that they bring the northern herd down the beach. We didn%26#39;t get to see that but it sounded like fun. When you%26#39;re there, check on it.

Here%26#39;s a link to stories and some decent pictures of the two we were there for.

There%26#39;s a button for 2003 and 2004. Return to Assateague will show you the pictures of the other things we%26#39;ve seen over there.

We had a great time both years. Make sure you get to the auction for a while. The excitement in some of the kids is amazing.

You definately want to have reservations at a motel or cottage. Many of the hotels have higher rates that week so you may find a rental cottage is a more affordable option for you. A friend of ours has several small rentals that you may want to look into at www.chincoteaguecottages.com

Have a great week!

Special gift card offer question

We%26#39;re most likely going to be booking the special Williamsburg Lodge package. It includes a $150 gift card which I am so confused about. Its hard for me to get a hold of them with my schedule and the 3 hours difference.

So its says, ';The Colonial Williamsburg Gift Card is good throughout our resort collection, including The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg and the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, and may also be used in our restaurants and taverns.';

Does that mean that I can use it at their shops? What about Huzzah, is that there restraunt? I couldn%26#39;t find it on their site, but I LOVE their food! =)

Thanks for all the help!

Special gift card offer question

Looks like Huzzah is included - the restaurant is listed on the CW website and it is on the property.

Note the special offer expires April 3, 2009.

Special gift card offer question

Thanks! I sure hope so! =)

  • Help with choices please!(Lodge vs Governors Inn)

We went to Colonial Williamsburg last year and were completely in love! Its all I%26#39;ve been able to talk about for a while now. We went the last week of August, the weather was perfect, hardly any crowds, cheaper plane tickets, etc.(now don%26#39;t steal my perfect week by going! haha just kidding)! But anyways, we stayed at the Governors Inn, we got an amazing price, we loved it for the money, and the continental breakfast was great!

We are now looking into the Williamsburg Lodge too. There is a very special package for a $150 gift card, admissions ticket, and 15% off most purchases at CW. Our budget is pretty tight, yet this seems like a good deal and a big upgrade from the Governors Inn.

Its $89 a night at the Governors Inn(including continental breakfast and admissions ticket I believe) and its $129 a night for us to stay at the Williamsburg Lodge(including $150 gift card, admissions ticket and 15% off CW purchase deal). So in reality, which one would you consider the better deal considering somewhat of a tight budget? I%26#39;m bummed the Williamsburg Lodge doesn%26#39;t include a continental breakfast, because that saved us quite a bit of money and was very enjoyable.

One more question, you know how you can get free juice and lemonade at the Governors Inn(also free fruit!) throughout the day? Is that available at the Lodge?

Help with choices please!(Lodge vs Governors Inn)

NEVER MIND! Sorry about that. I just called up the Governors Inn and they said they will be closed for renovation when we are considering going. BUMMER! =(

But if anyone could still help me with the last question, I would be so appreciative! :0)

Help with choices please!(Lodge vs Governors Inn)

I%26#39;ve never been offered free juice or lemonade during prior stays at the Lodge.

But, if you call, I%26#39;m sure they would be happy to answer your question.

By the way, the $129/night package rate is a very good deal for the Lodge(in my opinion). Just go out the door and either hop a shuttle or walk a SHORT distance and you are literally in the historic area.

    Enjoy your visit!

    Colonialgirl

    Thank you! :0)

I%26#39;m glad to hear thats a good deal! I%26#39;m excited to (hopefully) go! YAY!

    Take the deal!

We usually stay at either the Woodlands or the Lodge, and LOVE the Lodge for the extremely convienient access to the historic area.

Tutuandtoeshoes, that package at the Lodge with the $150 giftcard, free passes and $15 discout card expires April 3. When are you planning to come? You may want to check the website after that time to see what packages are available for the summer. The Governors Inn will not be open regularly, only during special events.

The old Lodge always had large wooden bowls of fruit, usually apples in the lobby and corridors for guests to help themselves, but I have not seen that treat in the new Lodge. But the Lodge is a great place to stay - the historic area is just steps away and there is a shuttle stop out the front door. Hotel guest passes will be $29.95 per adult and $15.95 per youth (6-17) for the length of stay as of April 4. The Continental breakfast at the Lodge is $10 per person over 5 years.

Thank you very much! We%26#39;re planning to book it tomorrow hopefully! I%26#39;m stressing out trying to make sure when can get everything booked in time. We%26#39;re going on another trip in June, so its hard to be planning both! Thanks again! =)

    Easter Brunch, Virginia Beach, VA

Will be in Virginia Beach for Easter weekend. Anyone know Hotels or restaurants with a good brunch?

  • cosmetics online
  • iad to Round Hill transportation? Ride Fly?

I%26#39;ve just booked an airport shuttle service-RideFly- to pick me up on the return leg of my trip. My normal picker uppers can%26#39;t get the time off and the last time I had this problem it cost me $66.00 to just get to Sterling on the Dulles Flyer cab, but it was snowing.

Has anyone used RideFly? They%26#39;ve quoted me a price of $40.00 which seems extremely reasonable. My fear is that I%26#39;ll either be stranded at the airport or there will be all kinds of extra charges added on.

iad to Round Hill transportation? Ride Fly?

That price is certainly right! We use a private driver and I think it is double what you are paying....I%26#39;d have to ask my hubby what the exact price is. I have never heard of RideFly. Good luck!

iad to Round Hill transportation? Ride Fly?

I%26#39;m home and the RideFly went fairly well. RideFly is a booking agent for SuperShuttle and if I had it to do over again I would book directly with SuperShuttle.

The airport to door service in Round Hill was honored at the $40.00 price-which is very reasonable. The only problem was the driver of the shuttle was understandably upset that he was being sent on a long trip for one passenger. Apparently they wait in line like taxi drivers do and hope they get a good fair. The shuttle in front of him had 6 passengers going to BWI at $70.00 a piece. After a 10 minute arguement he had with his dispatcher in a foreign language, he took off in a surly mood but drove safely. I gave him a good tip which made him smile but it was the only communication we had.

I%26#39;d book them again as it is the only way they will keep doing business with western Loudoun county.
