I have a hard time putting my mind around how long we need to spend at CW, Historic Jamestown, Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown to have a worthwhile visit at each of these historic sites. We will be in Williamsburg five nights and four full days. We have decided there is not time in this trip for BG or WC. We will strictly be taking in the historic sites. Can we do any justice to the Jamestowns and Yorktown if we cover all three in just one day? Would we be giving CW too much of the ratio of time if we spent three days there?
Do we need to have day tickets for each night we take in CW evening programming?
We have not decided on what types of tickets we will purchase yet. I see that Jamestown offers a multi-ticket for both Jamestowns and Yorktown for about $30. CW offers a pass for about $50 that gets you 25% off evening programming. This seems like it might be a better way to go than the $80 ticket that covers all four locations but doesn%26#39;t give you the 25% off evening programs discount. Am I correct or am I missing something?
TIA!
What amount of time to spend at each historic site...
Welcome to Williamsburg! For the time you have available, here%26#39;s what I would suggest:
2 full days at CW
1 full day to explore the 2 Jamestown sites
1 full day to explore the 2 Yorktown sites
Evening activities at CW for a couple of evenings
The Visitors Center at CW has a brochure with suggestions for first-time visitors or visitors who have just a day, which can be helpful in determining the ';must sees.';
Be sure to take time to drive the Colonial Parkway, which links Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown.
After mid-March, I think that CW will be changing ticket prices/plans, so you may find a better deal for the times you are in the area. Also, if you are staying in a CW property (Williamsburg Inn, Colonial Houses, the Lodge, the Woodlands, or the Governors Inn) you will probably get length of stay passes for CW, which is a pretty good deal.
For the Tavern Ghost walk, you don%26#39;t need a CW pass, but I think you do for the evening programs such as Cry Witch or In Defense of our Liberty.
What amount of time to spend at each historic site...
I just got back from CW spent a wk there and park at the Visitor Center and use the shuttles, but Zoey is right 2 full days for CW and 1 day for Jamestown, 1 day for Yorktown, make sure to watch the videos before so that way you%26#39;ll understand it better once on the tour. I got the historic triangle pass and then for the evening programs just select the ones your interested in. We went on the Ghost Walk of Williamsburg, for $11 pp and it was ok, but I thought I was going to be going into some of the homes and it basically was just walking around CW at night with a lantern, I would have rather done a different evening program. If you have a senior with you they can purchase for $10 a golden pass for the all in her party get into the state parks for free, Jamestown and Yorktown. Also see if they have AAA or Military discounts if anyone in your party has those.
asavedra,
Thank you for the information! Can you tell me if you went on the Ghosts Among Us tour our the Tavern Ghost Walk? I think there might even be another Ghost Walk put on by CW. Are you sure yours was an ';official'; CW Ghost Walk?
I do believe I will break down the days the way both you and Zoey suggested: 2 at CW, 1 at Yorktown and 1 at Jamestown. I have already purchased Liberty passes for CW, and a multi-pass to covered both Jamestowns and both Yorktowns. We have several evening programs scheduled. Did you participate in any evening programs other than the ghost walk?
I didn%26#39;t enjoy Jamestown or Yorktown, so it only took me about half a day to see them. Basically, I%26#39;m not the person to answer that part of your question. But as for CW, I recommend planning 3 days. Look at the weekly events and pick which ones you want to do. Usually you%26#39;ll have a few a day plus an evening program at night. You%26#39;ll have time in between to either tour CW or go venture around Merchant Square, the Yankee Candle Factory, the Outlets, etc. But if you%26#39;re very interested in Jamestown and Yorktown, then go ahead and give them 2 days and CW 2 days. That%26#39;s just not what I would do but a lot of people really enjoy the other part of the triangle.
