we leave next saturday for williamsburg and my father in law took a fall. Are there any places that rent electric scooters or wheelchairs in Williamsburg, yorktown, jamestown. How accesable are things if he needs one?
electic carts or scooters
As much as I love CW it is a tough place for those with mobility issues, including scooter users.
It can be done, is not easy or convenient.
One of the biggest problems is the terrain - nothing is paved smooth - so you go from brick, to gravel, to stone, to ground to brick, etc.
Also the many of the buildings have quite limited access. It%26#39;s the nature of an 18th century reproduction.
Know this before you decide to continue with your FIL - it can be done, it%26#39;s work to do so.
CW is accommodating as it can be - just know that is limited. even the shops and restaurants are not that easy.
yes, scooters available - i%26#39;d contact CW if you are staying one property.

When we were there in March, I did see someone using a scooter. I am not really sure how easily this person moved about, but the shuttle buses around Williamsburg were able to accommodate him and his scooter. Williamsburg streets themselves will not be a problem...pathways to various sites might be. I would think that the museum at Jamestown Settlement would not be a hardship, but once you leave that area to see the fort and the ships, the ground is uneven There are pathways, so, if you stayed on those, you would probably be okay. Give these areas a call and ask what provisions are made for travelers in your father-in-law%26#39;s position. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
So sorry to hear that ... yes, call 1-800-HISTORY for a list of local companies that rent devices. I specifically asked that question the last time I was in Williamsburg and was told it is a relatively common arrangement. If you are staying on-property, CW will help get it to you.
Don%26#39;t take no for an answer -- there is such a list even if one or another reservationist doesn%26#39;t think so. PM me if you have trouble.
The Virginia Travel Guide for Persons with Disabilities is online. It%26#39;s an excellent resource!

Select the Tidewater Region on the right-hand side of the page. This will take you to the area%26#39;s cities. Not only does it cover the attactions, it also gives accessibilty info for some shopping areas.
