Driving to VA

I will be driving to VA in a few days, and I am just wondering what to expect of the traffic. I am coming from WI. Anyone have any tips?

Driving to VA

Can you be more specific as to which way you%26#39;re coming? Will you be coming in by way of I-95 around DC or on I-64 or I-77 from West Virginia? Or some other way? In general, traffic in and around DC will always be hectic, so fasten your seat belt and go. Any of the other interstates will have spurts of heavy traffic but by and large are rather pleasant drives.

Be prepared and try to time getting here in between the rush hours which can be bad going towards the District from right before 6 am to 9:30 am and away from the District from about 2:30pm -7:30pm-we have very long ones! And there is still very heavy traffic to the District on the weekends, as well.

Well, the OP hasn%26#39;t responded, but we shouldn%26#39;t assume D.C. will have anything to do with this trip. Coming from Wisconsin, and not specifying where in VA, D.C. traffic may be moot.

Once in Virginia, you can call 511, twenty-four hours a day for traffic information. The service also offers weather updates and highway construction advisories. The 511 system can be accessed from your cell or landline phone and it%26#39;s free (yay!).

You can also get traffic info at 511virginia.org. Before you leave Wisconsin, you might want to take a look to get an idea as to how exciting traffic gets in each area. :-)
