I was hoping that someone could tell me the big differences between Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens. We are planning a trip to Jamestown just for one day and would like to overnight in the city where either Kings Dom is located or Busch Gardens. We will only have one day at the amusement park and will then drive to grandmother%26#39;s home in D.C. Price? Types of Rides? Family Oriented? Places to eat? Anything like that or any other info is really helpful considering we have never been to either one. Thank you...
Busch Gardens vs. Kings DominionThe websites for the theme parks will give you much of the information you seek.

Then if you have more quesitons, post again!
Busch Gardens vs. Kings DominionI%26#39;ve been to K.D. and B.G. many many times. I grew up near Kings Dominion and now live near Busch Gardens. Both parks are really fun.
Busch Gardens is beautiful and has fantastic shows. They have some great rides, but only a few thrill rides. Their newest roller coaster opens May 25 and includes a 200 foot drop straight down! Single day ticket-$55/adult, $47/child.
Kings Dominion has awesome thrill rides and great roller coasters, including some wooden ones (B.G. has no wooden coasters). They have fun shows and several kids areas (nickolodeon themed). If you will be traveling after May 26th, you have the added bonus of the water park being open. The water park is included in the price of your ticket. Sindle day ticket-$40/adult, $25/child.
It really depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for a thrill, go for K.D. If you%26#39;re looking to spend a nice day with the kids you may want B.G.
I like both of them, but for different reasons. They both provide VERY different environments. King%26#39;s Dominion does have more rides, both the adult %26amp; kid rides are great, it%26#39;s a fun place for that, but at the same time is wall-to-wall concrete %26amp; steel, no real appeal to the senses other than rides, rides, rides, I found it to also be very dirty, %26amp; decent customer service, food quality %26amp; even employee knowledge of the park seem to be severely lacking. But it is a great place for fun. As far as places to eat, they have your basic theme park food, burgers, pizza, etc.
Busch Gardens seems to work harder to create not just rides, but more of an experience. The rides they do have are great, just not as many as KD but definitely enough that you could still spend a full day there, it is a much cleaner park with beautiful landscaping %26amp; architecture, they have wonderful shows %26amp; shops that are more than just the basic souvenier shops, the customer service is usually phenomenal (I have season%26#39;s passes, so I go regularly), %26amp; I just have a much more peaceful, pleasant time there. You can tell they work very hard to create a magical experience. As far as food, they have a great variety, %26#39;themed%26#39; food based on the %26#39;country%26#39; you are visiting within the park.
You mentioned you were visiting Jamestown - Busch Gardens will be about a 10 minute drive from there, Kings Dominion will be about 45 minutes.
Hope that helps! Either way, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time. And whichever one you don%26#39;t visit this time around, come back and see next time!
I would say Kings Dominion because it has 14 roller coasters and four of them are wooden and kings dominion is clean and the front entrance has the biggest foutin display in the world.
bush Gardens is boring because they only have 4 coasters and very little rides and they dont have any wodden coasters.
I have been to Kings Dominion and Bush Gardens. I recommend Bush Gardens for a more family-friendly environment. If you are a thrill rider, than Kings Dominion is for you.
This issue was debated recently in another thread:

There are 5 big coasters at BG (not 4). Yes, there are no wooden coasters, but the coasters that they have are not for sissies.
KD has more rides across the spectrum.
What a prior poster said about cleanliness and attention to detail is absolutely true about BG. The park is IMMACULATE, having won many awards for being clean.
From a review, ';Why it%26#39;s a best pick: Busch Gardens Europe, though not as well-known as the other parks on this list, is without doubt a gem. Located in the historical Williamsburg area of Virginia, Busch Gardens Europe is pristinely landscaped and has been voted the “most beautiful park” by industry experts for eighteen straight years. ';

KD can be dirty, and things are allowed to get worn, overused, and sometimes downright gross. (Anyone who has been in the lines for Volcano, or remembers the ';temple of old gum'; that used to be the Time Shaft ride knows what I am talking about.)
And no, KD does not have the biggest fountain display in the world. Perhaps way back in 1975, but now that honor goes to Dubai.
I think your choice will boil down to what your kids (assuming there will be kids) want to do, their ages, etc. For teens/pre-teens who want RIDES RIDES RIDES, I would go with KD. If you have smaller children and want a clean park to walk around in and don%26#39;t need ride after ride to entertain them, I would choose BG.
And of course...NOW I notice that the OP put this on here years ago...
OH well...the info should still be useful for someone!
