Jellyfish problem in Virignia Beach in August??

I am hearing mixed reviews about the jellyfish issue in VA Beach in August. Some say it%26#39;s REALLY BAD while others say not an issue. Any expert advise??

Jellyfish problem in Virignia Beach in August??

I was there last August and we didn%26#39;t encounter any jellyfish. Maybe b/c the ocean was so rough from the hurricane out at sea, I%26#39;m not sure but I hope we don%26#39;t encounter them when we head there in a few weeks!

The bad news is you are coming during jellyfish season. The good news is that they are more of a problem in the bay than in the ocean. My surfer nephew did report seeing some small ones recently.

Safeguards and treatments are key. Read any warnings that some have been sited in your area...ask the lifeguard. If stung, rinse off with sea water, rub gently with towel, meat tenderizer can work so bring a couple.

Oh,one more thing. It is said that people%26#39;s reaction to jelly fish sting as far as breathing can be like their reaction to a bee sting. If anyone in your group is at the point of needing that epi for the beesting, like some friends of mine, be sure to have some just in case of jelly fish sting reaction. If anyone uses an emergency inhaler for asthma, have that along. BUT, these are actually normal precautions in life. We have been at tons of beachs, often at VB, loved going in jelly fish season and out of those many many many times, only a couple of children had stings and were treated as in my previous message quickly and no big deal. It doesn%26#39;t have to be a scarey thing or an end to vacation fun.

We were in Virginia Beach in mid-July and the waters were full of Jellyfish, but we did not see anyone getting stung. There were also a lot of them washing up onto the beach, and my children were very nervous about going into the water because there were so many. So, you may see quite a few in August as well.

Thanks everyone for the advise! I%26#39;ve gone over 10 years ago and never saw one jellyfish in August, however travellers who have gone recently say otherwise.

I will remember to bring that ';emergancy kit'; in case of a sting.

Okay! This might sound cheesy, but that saying to pee on the stinged area, is that really affective??

The rest of the myth is that it is male%26#39;s urine that is preferable...to whom? Actually, they say it burns and cold packs are better.

HahaHhahha explorer3!!!!

Good point! I think I will stick with the ice pack instead!

LOL!

would that include the last week of August? i hate jellyfish.....

hey Raptorfan...

Well according to the internet sites it states the whole month of August. So, I guess your chances are pretty much the same.
