VA Beach Honeymoon

Hello....I am going on a honeymoon the 2nd week in May and i was wondering if anyone knew of a nice hotel on the strip or near the strip to stay? I looked at a few but sometimes its hard to tell from the internet pictures. I guess I would like an more updated or newer hotel. Also what are some other things to do in the area besides going to the beach?

Two newer hotels that get good reviews are SpringHill Suites and Hilton Oceanfront. You might also look at Turtle Cay, which isn%26#39;t oceanfront but is right across the street with easy access to the beach.

Besides the beach, you might enjoy an afternoon or evening cruise: the American Rover out of Norfolk, or Virginia Jewel which cruises Lynnhaven Bay.

Museums: Marine Science Center and Aquarium, Nauticus in Norfolk, Lifesaving Museum on the Boardwalk, Wildlife Heritage Center on the Boardwalk, Chrysler in Norfolk, Air %26amp; Space in Hampton, Mariner%26#39;s Museum in Newport News

History: there are several historical homes in Virginia Beach such as Francis Land House and Thoroughgood; 90 minutes away is Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown; Civil War plantations in Newport News - Endview and Lee Hall

Hiking: First Landing State Park

Biking: rent bikes on the Boardwalk

Baseball: If the Tides are in town, it%26#39;s always a great ';cheap'; night at Harbor Park. The Tides are part of the Orioles franchise.

Events: Check vbfun.com and click on Events -- you can search your dates to see what is going on. For example, The Arts Festival will be April through May, so you might find a play or concert of interest. Beach Music Weekend is 14-17 of May.

Please post more questions as you refine your plans.

Thanks for the information I really like the Springhill hotel. I wanted to know about the night life in the area. Can you tell me about any clubs, bars, etc.

There are lots of bars along Atlantic and Pacific, some located within hotels and restaurants. Some have live music -- Mahi Mah%26#39;s, Jewish Mother to name 2. Some others include Harpoon Larry%26#39;s, Abbey Road, Crocs, LunaSea, Worrell Brothers, Raven, Guadalajara. You can also find some good bars in Town Center, a short drive away on Virginia Beach Blvd.

My vote goes to the Hilton at 31st street for a good honeymoon hotel. Room service, great restaurants on site, and places such as Starbucks, Jodys popcorn, A sushi restaurant, etc right across the street below the parking deck.

I wish Worrell Brothers was still around, I miss that place. Also, I don%26#39;t know if there is still a Guadalejuara%26#39;s at the oceanfront anymore either.

How old are you and your spouse-to-be? That can make a difference as to where you will want to go and where you will want to avoid. Some places are 18 and up, whereas some are known for the ';just turned 21'; or ';21 with fake ID'; crowd. They are generally the places you don%26#39;t want to bother with, especially if you are here as a tourist. They tend to make up the prices as they go and play by their own set of rules. That is also where the most police officers will be, and yes, they are there to write tickets.

Guadalajara%26#39;s website shows an oceanfront location. Of course, I know that doesn%26#39;t always mean it%26#39;s so. Often it%26#39;s the website that is the last to change.

Thanks for the reply ';RyanandMartene'; Well we are 29 and 28 so we would need to know where to go in our age range which I didnt think about before. That was a great question. I will also look into that hotel but right now I am sold on Springhill Suites but I wont count out the other hotel. Is there anything else I need to know about the area?

Also are there any hang out spots that play hip hop and R%26amp;B music we like to hang out with different crowds.

There are places that are specifically ';hip hop'; clubs, although a couple of them have been shut down recently so I can%26#39;t give specifics. One that is pretty laid back without ';drama'; is The Cave on 17th street, and they have strict security so there aren%26#39;t too many problems. I would avoid the block altogether, that is the row of bars between 21st and 22nd street. Peabodys is a decent club but has a lot of the younger kids in there. Lunasea on 22nd street is pretty cool, as is Ohana on Atlantic (between 20-21st I think). Both clubs have a good mix of a crowd and play good dance music and the current hits. Catch 31 has bands playing nightly at varying times and there is Murphys Irish Pub across the street. Let me know if there is more specific info you are looking for.

As for Guads, they may very well still have the location at the beach, is it listed at 21st street? It may have been the place next to it that closed down... its been awhile since I have been down that way so I might have it mistaken with something else.

What is there to do in Norfolk? We wouldnt mind a day trip out there.

Since you%26#39;re willing to drive - I tried looking up one of our entertainment writers for the Virginian Pilot who just did a story on a new hip hop place but I only found his blog...

you might be able to email him? think it%26#39;s located on Witchduck road.

In Norfolk - you%26#39;ll find the Tides if they are in town, and nightlife on Granby street, and great up and coming bands at the NorVa
