Currently, the Colonial Williamsburg Taverns are open and serving meals as follows:
Christiana Campbell%26#39;s Tavern -- serving dinner Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday.
Shields Tavern: serving dinner Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday.
King%26#39;s Arms Tavern-- serving lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday; closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Chowning%26#39;s Tavern -- Lunch daily; open every evening with ';light fare'; starting at 5:p.m.
Tavern Dining Schedules
On the history.org site, this is what it says about Chowning%26#39;s Tavern:
';Family entertainment is the rule between 5 and 8 p.m. From 8 p.m.until closing, Chowning%26#39;s caters to a more mature audience.';
What I was wondering is, do they still serve their ';light fare'; menu after 8? Or is it just the entertainment called ';Gambols';, I believe? I know I could call, and I have called for other information, but I thought maybe someone had experienced this and would like to tell us about it. I%26#39;ve read that no reservations are needed for Chowning%26#39;s but was wondering if this is true for the evening,also.
Thanks Bix for the info.
Tavern Dining Schedules
Chownings does not accept reservations at all. Light fare is still available after 8. It is just the nature of the entertainment that shifts a bit.
Chownings is a good choice for late evening food when the other taverns are full or closed. Gambols has to do with the entertainment there, not the menu.
Another choice for later in the evening is the Williamsburg Lodge Restaurant. It is just a block off of the historic area.
Thanks to both of you. Believe it or not, I haven%26#39;t experienced any of the taverns yet and Chownings seems like the best one for our budget. I knew the Gambols part was the entertainment and am looking forward to this part of our visit. We%26#39;ll be there in 8 days, but who%26#39;s counting? Well, I guess I am. :)
I%26#39;m counting too since it looks like I will be there at the same time as you mary. Cannot wait as it is my first time.
