We have a hotel booked in Williamsburg and planned to visit Busch Gardens and Water Country. We will be there for four days in early July. Our group is not interested in visiting Colonial Williamsburg. We plan to drive down to VA Beach for a day as well. I was wondering which amusement park is a better choice? We are not coaster fans. There are four teens and pre teens that might ride some coasters but not the real big ones. it looks like that is all BG has. Us adults won%26#39;t ride any coasters. Thanks for the help.
Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion
Busch Gardens is an IMMACULATE park. Yes, there are fantastic roller coasters there, but I think if you had to pick between the two for someone who WASN%26#39;T interested in riding them, and just puttering around a nice park-BG is the better choice by FAR.
Now, if you want a good selection of OTHER rides-not coasters, such as Drop Tower, Scrambler-type rides, tamer coasters, bumper cars, go-karts, etc., then Kings Dominion is probably going to offer you more options.
Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion
We have been to Busch Gardens multiple times and it is mostly roller coasters. A very beautiful park but if you are not into roller coasters, it probably is not a park for you. I can not speak for Kings Dominion because we have not been there yet.
BG only has 12 ';rides'; with 5 of those being coasters.
The others-
Battering Ram-a swinging ship
Corkscrew Hill-3D simulation ride
Curse of DarKastle-siulation/motion ride (made me queasy!)
DaVinci%26#39;s Cradle-Flying Carpet style ride (swing/drop)
Escape from Pompeii-themed water plunge ride
Le Scoot Log Flume-log flume
Roman Rapids-water rapid ride
Kings Dominion has the following non-coaster rides:
Berserker-swinging ship ride, but goes all the way upside down. It HANGS upside down-so if upside down freaks you out-DON%26#39;T TRY IT.
Drop Tower-Largest in North America 305 foot drop tower.
White Water Canyon-water rapid ride
Crypt-flying carpet/spinning ride with effects. (Used to be called Tomb Raider when Paramount still owned park.)
Avalanche-sort of a coaster-sort of not. A ';Bobsled'; style ride.
There is a long list of other attractions at KD, which include Scooby Doo coaster (kid coaster) has been there FOREVER. There is a carousel, antique cars you drive, they have added a Ferris Wheel. Also the Eiffel Tower (1/3 scale), log flume, swing chairs, Sponge Bob 3D virtual ride (really fun-even if you don%26#39;t like SBSP).
Thanks for your posts. This is the type of info I need to make a decision. Seems to me like I am leaning towards KD. Hope the teens are too.
OH, also forgot to add that KD has an extensive water park area as well. You could spend a day in there alone.
SO if you do pick KD, pack a suit.
If you are able to go to BG, I still recommend it. It is a GORGEOUS park.
KD gets a lot of Richmond crowd, so if you can hit it on a weekday, you will be better off.
busch gardens also has:
the aeronaught skyride that goes over the park.
kinder karrusel- a carousel ride
der werbelwind- a swing ride
the battering ram
da vincis cradle
flying machine
lil ballons
lil gliders
rhine river cruise
train ride
turkish delight- tea cup ride
lots of shows
