Woodlands vs. Lodge

My husband and I are in great debate as to where to stay for our July 2009 trip to CW. We can take advantage of the Summer Package and stay at the Woodlands or should we stay at the Lodge instead? Very confused after reading the online reviews so any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!

Woodlands vs. Lodge

of those 2 - Lodge. It is much nicer and in a better location for touring CW. If your budget allows The Inn is much better.

Woodlands vs. Lodge

We definitely prefer the Lodge over the Woodlands. The new Guesthouses are very nice; as is the location. Go out the door and you are about a block away from the historic area. There is also a shuttle stop right there which is quite convenient. There is a nice cocktail lounge to enjoy after a long day of sightseeing.

There seem to be fewer children at the Lodge than at the Woodlands if that would affect your decision.

Woodlands is a great hotel for the money. I think it all depends upon what your budget allows. The Woodlands is a very clean, nice hotel.

I%26#39;m going to repeat myself here, so everyone else with have to bear with me! haha! :D

There%26#39;s this thing called a Williamsburg Founder Card. If you spend $35, you can support Colonial Williamsburg which includes quite a few goodies and most a hotel discount. This hotel discount will get you $20 OFF PER NIGHT at the Williamsburg Lodge. We did this, and its well worth it! It ended up being a much better deal than the Summer Package.

It sounds like you are in the exact same position we were in. The Lodge is much nicer and practically in the middle of all the action! I would completely recommend spending the $35 to support CW. After you do, book your hotel room but be sure to tell them you are a CW supporter. You *might* need your card number, I%26#39;m not sure. We didn%26#39;t though.

Don%26#39;t listen to the reviews about the CW owned hotels. Read this board for a more accurate review. To be honest, people who don%26#39;t usually post are going to go out their way to post if they didn%26#39;t enjoy their stay. Everyone I%26#39;ve ever heard, besides on those review, have said they loved their stay at the Lodge.

Great advice, thank you! We are and have been CW supporters for a few years but had no idea about the hotel discounts. Did not see that discount in any of the info that they have sent but we will definitely ask when booking!

Less kids at the Lodge is definitely a plus for us! So that is great tid bit of info.

Hi, missie -- I think tutus has hit the nail on the head by saying don%26#39;t give a lot of weight to the reviews of the CW hotels. I also have puzzled over them, since they do not (in my opinion) capture the essence of those places. Many reviews seem to be what I would call ';incident-driven';, a recital of one-off incidents that may well have been significant to the poster, but which hardly should govern any other vacationer%26#39;s strategy about where to locate.

As I see it, this reviewing peculiarity applies to all of the CW properties.

Given the choices you have listed, I would pick the Lodge, too. It is attractive, comfortable and well-run, has a full array of services (bar, restaurant, concierge, gift shop, parking lots, etc.). It always seems to be buzzing, possibly because it is the locus of convention activity (the CW conference facilities are attached). And of course it is in a great location, literally on the perimeter of the restored area and the closest you can get without staying inside the restored area in a Colonial House.

I doubt you will have any regrets! Have a great time.

Thats great that you already support them! I have heard several times that you get $20 off the lodge, and I know they used it with us! :) On the little card they mail you, it says you get the best rates available, which is the discount.

Since my daughter is a teen, and a pretty mature one(well she loves history and loves to spend time with her mom if that says enough), so we both wanted less kids in the hotel. With the summer savers package we were pretty sure that the Woodlands would have kids in nearly every room.

Have fun! Tell us what you decide! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. We try to get to CW at least once a year but this is our first time staying at one of their properties. After reading everyone%26#39;s replies, we are leaning towards the Lodge.

Does anyone know if CW passes are included with your stay at the Lodge if it is not a ';package deal';?

Thanks!

Call 1-800-HISTORY and ask to be certain. If it%26#39;s not included, the hotel guest pass is $29.95, is good for the length of your stay, and offers a 25% discount on evening programs.

Thank you! We will call in the am. Tried calling this evening but they were already closed.
