Where should I propose in Williamsburg?

My GF and I are going to be in Williamsburg the first week of September, and I%26#39;m looking for the perfect place to propose to her ... I was thinking of setting up something special over a romantic dinner at either Christiana Campbell%26#39;s or the King%26#39;s Arms. Which of these would be the most intimate? Or, should I consider someplace else all together?

Thanks in advance.

Where should I propose in Williamsburg?

I%26#39;m sorry I can%26#39;t help you out with the taverns, but I just want to tell you that your idea is awesome!! And so romantic. CW would be such a wonderful place to propose to your lady. And then you could bring her back on your anniversary%26#39;s. See, I already got it planned out for you!! Congrats to you. I know a lot of posters will have some great help for you.

Where should I propose in Williamsburg?

Crim Dell Bridge...you can read about it here: …wikipedia.org/wiki/Crim_Dell_bridge#Traditi…

I like the taverns, but for an intimate dinner, you want Fat Canary tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g58313-d56… or maybe Le Yaca tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g58313-d44… or even the Regency Room of the Williamsburg Inn tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g58313-d52…

There is a beautiful, huge tree on Nicholson Street, just across from the St. George Tucker house, that is a well known ';proposal'; spot. Several College of William and Mary students have proposed there. The tree%26#39;s large canopy makes an ideal, private spot -- unless, of course, another couple has the same idea for the same time.

The taverns are used to marriage proposals. Last week, at Shield%26#39;s Tavern, a young man had his server place the engagement ring around the cherry on top of his girlfriend%26#39;s ice cream...and yes, she said yes.

If you want to really make it apecial and memorable, reserve a dinner table at the Williamsburg Inn, and propose there. With the fine dining and ambiance, it will add to your special event.

Thanks for the responses everyone!!! For some background, we%26#39;re both history buffs, and I just had images of a lovely dinner in an old colonial tavern, musicians roaming, candlelight, etc. I%26#39;ve even begun calling some of these establishments to try to arrange something memorable and special ... keep the suggestions coming though. I want it to be perfect.

Oh, not Fat Canary! It%26#39;s a wonderful restaurant, but romantic, not so much. If you%26#39;re not proposing somewhere in Colonial Williamsburg, I%26#39;d say Le Yaca. But in Colonial Williamsburg, in one of the areas behind the Governor%26#39;s Palace, near the maze, in the garden, or near the canal, where it%26#39;ll be quieter and beautiful.

I concur - Fat C is NOT romantic at all - I%26#39;ve said many times it is loud, the tables are close together - your dining neighbors will hear your proposal (maybe better than your fiance%26#39;) even if you are in the table by the window.

Le Yaca is the best restuarant in town - tell Joy your plan, she will facilitate.

If I didn%26#39;t opt for Crim Dell (SO WONDERFUL) I might consider Jamestown - the NPS isalnd, overlooking the river or along the colonial parkway, at sunset or sunrise.

The taverns are not romantic - full of tourists and kids - is this what you want?

Congratulations.

OK. I%26#39;ve gotta%26#39; say ... the Crim Dell Bridge is looking like it may be the spot. If anyone else has any more suggestions, keep em%26#39; coming.

Hope your gf not a regular here or it may not be a surprise. My bride of almost 49 years and I were there last week. W%26amp;M campus near Wrenn Hall looked like good sort of private place to propose, but doubt you want real private.

I asked my wife about 5 times before she finally agreed. all in rather private places. I wasn%26#39;t willing to take risk of public proposal.

The Crim Dell and under the massive tree across from the St. George Tucker House are great ideas. I echo Zoey%26#39;s suggestion of the Palace grounds. My husband and I used to always make sure we walked around the canal at least once during every visit. There was a shaded bench at one end; but, I am not positive it is still there.

Have you considered checking into the possibility of a private carriage ride for just the two of you?

Good luck with your planning!

I agree with others about the Crim Dell bridge and the gardens behind the palace- strolling through there is probably the most romantic part of Williamsburg!
