I was thinking of visiting Norfolk Va in late June(From PA). Seems like there is plenty to do. How does this list sound?
Norfolk Botannical Garden
Nauticus
Virginia Zoo (worth visiting?)
Town Point Park
Viginai Beach
Does this sound like a good itinerary?? Are these p laces worth visiting? Thanks in advance!
Norfolk things to do list
Is there any decent hotels near Town Point Park?
Norfolk things to do list
The City is supposedly winding up the renovation of Town Point Park - maybe it%26#39;ll be open when you get here, not sure. The GRAND opening is early July, but that might just be the celebration. There isn%26#39;t really anything to DO at the Park - it%26#39;s just an open area for festivals, and there are paths and benches where you can sit and watch the river traffic.
The Virginia Zoo is VERY small, and so people who have been to the San Diego Zoo or Washington Zoo often just laugh at this little spot, but certainly if you have time, it%26#39;s worth a couple hours. Our lions are brand new parents as of this week, and the babies should be out on display when you arrive.
Absolutely Nauticus is worth a visit as is the Battleship Wisconsin moored alongside (free). The Botannical Gardens are lovely. Yes, enjoy the beach - it%26#39;s only about a 20-minute drive.
As for hotels near Town Point Park, there are the Marriott Waterside, Sheraton, Courtyard Marriott, and Residence Inn.
Have fun!
If you enjoy boat tours, there are several at the Downtown Norfolk waterfront (adjacent to the Towne Point Park area behind Waterside Marketplace). The American Rover is a beautiful sailboat...see the harbor area; Spirit of Norfolk offers lunch and dinner cruises; Victory Rover is a powerboat touring the pier area at Naval Base...usually get to see some cool ships (from the water). You can also take the Elizabeth River Ferry to Downtown Portsmouth...very inexpensive and interesting sights. More details at www.norfolkcvb.com/groups/cruise-norfolk.html
Enjoy.
