My dh and I and another couple will be in Charlottesville for four days at the beginning of June. We are looking to stay within walking distance or on the trolley route for a few nights. What hotels would fall into that catagory? We would like to either be able to walk or take the trolley instead of driving. I would love to stay at the Omni, but its really more than we want to spend. We are also interested in Brewery tours. Any opinions on the local company that takes you on a combination brewery/winery tour?

I don%26#39;t know how familiar you are with Charlottesville. The trolley only goes between UVA and the Downtown Mall- a 5 min drive by car. If you have a number of activities planned at the University, it would be easier to take the trolley from your hotel to the campus, rather than always trying to find a parking space. There is a Hampton Inn and Marriott Courtyard on Main St closer to UVA but on the trolley route. Pricewise, you would probably do better with hotels on Rte 29: Hampton Inn, Marriott Courtyard, Marriott Fairfield, as well as a number of less expensive motels.
I%26#39;m not familiar with any of the guided tours.
It would help to know if you are planning on touristy things like Monticello, etc or are more interested in hanging out and relaxing on the Downtown Mall and the Corner at UVA. There are City buses that cover more of Charlottesville than the trolley and they can be accessed at the Downtown Mall.

trip in June
We had planned to spend time in the downtown area, and also visit Monticello. We have been to Charlottesville many years ago. I have been looking for a hotel and I am not finding much available for the first weekend in June, and what few rooms (Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn) that I have found are very high priced ($160) compared to the rates for the following weekend ($127). I wouldn%26#39;t mind paying that for a better hotel or one in the downtown area. There must be something going on in town on that weekend. We may have to change our plans if we can%26#39;t find two rooms.
It%26#39;s highschool graduation weekend. Albemarle has 4 highschools and Charlottesville has one.
Just north of Albemarle is Ruckersville in Greene County. They have a new Best Western that is very nice (I%26#39;m very picky about hotels) and their weekend rate runs about $120, less during the week. It%26#39;s about 20 min from downtown, right on Rte 29.
