My wife and I are staying at a Williamsburg time share, the last week of April. We will be doing all these historical. Our typical vacations have been beach orionated, California, Hawaii and the Caribbean, so it is hard to get it out of my system. We have not done a Beach on the Atlantic however, Is Virginia Beach worth the effort? How would you rate the sand and the water. What will water temperatures be like and the crowds for that matter. Thanks for any help.
To beach or not to beach
Yes VA Beach is worth the effort. I don%26#39;t know much about the water temp at the time you will be there. But we go July/August and it is beautiful. At least drive down for a day. You will not be disappointed.
To beach or not to beach
In late April, the water will still be a bit too chilly for most people, but at least the sand won%26#39;t blister your feet. The sand is not cool and powdery like in Siesta Key, Florida or in Mexico, but in April it shouldn%26#39;t matter. Crowds won%26#39;t be a problem -- it%26#39;s way too early for crowds, but even if it were at the height of the season, there%26#39;s room for very large crowds. If you look at traveler photos, you%26#39;ll see the beach is very wide. VB is clean, I%26#39;ll give it that.
Take a look at this post a little below yours about coming to VB last week in April:

Virginia Beach obviously doesn%26#39;t compare to the Caribbean, but its not a bad place to live either. The temps at the end of April will be highs around 60-75 or so, maybe an 80s day in there somewhere. Lows will still be cool, in the 50s or so. The water will be too cold for swimming, but the boardwalk area is a great place to go for a walk and enjoy the breeze.
If you are here, you might as well check it out. A day at the beach, a good restaurant, and some shopping will be a nice break from Williamsburg. Enjoy!
I%26#39;d say if you%26#39;re a beach person and you%26#39;re that close you should come on down. Crowds won%26#39;t be bad at all and you can be on the beach all day without sweating!
Only tip would be to plan your drive around the tunnel traffic. During the week, come after 9 am and stay until after 7 pm. Plenty to do to make a day out of it. Should take you about an hour without traffic.
