We%26#39;ll be traveling from Northern NJ into the Outter Banks this summer and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a hotel on the way in, somewhere around Va Beach. We%26#39;ll be traveling down 13/113 and would like to get relatively close in order to get ahead start on the traffic the next morning. Any help would be appreciated.
Stopover Hotel
I know US-13, but VB is not very close. I%26#39;d stay in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake. Check this site and under ';Location,'; select ';Greenbrier.';

This is a good area with lots of new hotels and good choices of places to eat.
Stopover Hotel
That%26#39;s a good name for a hotel. The Stopover:)
If you go into the Outer Banks in the morning, most people will be leaving and going the opposite direction. Traffic backs up quickly on a weekend as the day goes on.
So you%26#39;d probably want to do your time-spending, sight-seeing around your rental waiting for check-in. And there%26#39;s a lot to do there.
Remember you drive down the mainland, not South through Va. Beach and Sandbridge, etc. anyway.
As Wendy suggested look for hotels in Chesapeake on TA, click on the map and zoom in so you can see how close you are to 168 S for the second leg of your trip.
If you want a little break in that area coming or going, you might check out the Chesapeake Planetarium at Great Bridge...Rt. 165 about 1/4 mile off Rt. 168. It%26#39;s the first one in a Va. public school, built over 40 years ago and has over 50,000 visitors a year. In July and August they do summer stars and hand out free charts of the summer sky, which could be interesting to revisit at night during the summer, perhaps during your vacation, especially if you have children.
You could explore the very significant Revolutionary War history. The complete defeat of the British in the Va. Colongy at the Battle of Gread Bridge Dec. 9, 1775 was seven months before the Declaration of Indipendence and at the time was called the Second Battle of Bunker Hill. It ended the rule of the British Crown in Va.
There%26#39;s more of course...park, restaurants, etc. but don%26#39;t want to get into too much if that%26#39;s not what you need right now.
Coming or going you might also like to explore Knott%26#39;s Island. If you have your finger on Chesapeake, it%26#39;s kind of sw.
There%26#39;s a Wildllife Festival in July; the Peach Festival in August.
There is a ';mini wine trail'; and two vineyard.
There%26#39;s a nearby Wildlife Refuge, Mackay Island.
Pick your own items. Can be a nice side trip coming and going.
Now that I think of it I should make a little list of things to do along 158 in NC too...perhaps a list of things to do on one%26#39;s way to the Outer Banks. Lots to choose among for fun and breaks.
Let us know if there%26#39;s anything else you%26#39;d like to know.
