Lodgind, sightseeing and shopping in Richmond VA

I am travelling to Richmond VA at the end of June, I will be staying for three nights. I would like to spend a day sightseeing and another shopping at a Outlet Mall. Ca you give suggestion of a nice hotel in a good location? Wich is the best outlet mall in the region? What will be worthy to visit in a day or two?

The two newer malls in Richmond are Short Pump Mall and Stony Point Mall. These are full retail malls. The outlet malls that we Richmonders go to are in Williamsburg, 50 miles away, but there is great sight seeing there, too. What do you like to do or see while sight seeing? Richmond has so much history. We have both our state capitol and the confederate capitol here in Richmond. Check this site for hotels/ranking as well as the list of things to do/see in the Richmond listings.

If your plans are somewhat flexible regarding the length of your stay, you may wish to check out www.virginia.org/40OFF. Some hotels and B%26amp;B%26#39;s are offering buy 3 nights, get 4th night free. There are other 40 OFF deals there too.

As for location, are you looking for urban or suburban? As for sight-seeing, are you interested in architecture, history, gardens, museums, river activities or whatever?

Closest Outlet Mall is in Williamsburg - about 50 minutes away from downtown Richmond.

Enjoy your trip here!

What is the name of the outlet in Williamasburg? It is also a nice city to visit?

I would like stay in a nice hotel, not far away from restaurants, and easy to go by car (good parking).

About the sight-seeing, I am interest in history and architeture, but also a little bit of fun won´t hurt.

What about the theme park near Richmond, Kings something?

The outlet mall in Williamsburg is called ';Prime Outlets';, and it is more like a shopping center, multiple sections. If you like to shop, you could easily spend a day. It is located on Rt. 60. Williamsburg was our country%26#39;s colonial capitol, so it is full of history. Do a search on this site for ';things to do';. You can get a one-day pass for Colonial Williamsburg and get a flavor of how our country started out in the 1700%26#39;s.

Richmond was the ';confederate capitol'; of the United States (well, we weren%26#39;t so united back in 1862-5), and you can tour the Confederate White House as well as our current state capitol building that was designed by Thomas Jefferson. Monument Avenue is worth driving down (and back).

Where are you staying in Richmond? If you give me a location I can help with hotel suggestions. The Jefferson Hotel is lovely, and the Berkley Hotel is located in Shockoe Slip which is lively at night, with restaurants and bars. Again, search this site for suggestions.

The theme park you are thinking of is Kings Dominion.

Great tips! Thanks! I would love to kown part of USA history by visiting these places.

I don%26#39;t know what is the best area to stay in Richmond. I looked up for the two hotels you recommended, but they are a little bit pricy for me. So, do you have a intermediary suggestion?

Williamsburg has a deal on a 1BR unit for $59:

The Tripadvisor site has the #6 hotel in Richmond at the avg. price of $110 with good reviews (Short Pump is a good area with the new mall ;)):

If you find something that looks interesting, report what you find and we can help you from there.

If you are going to be headed to the outlet malls in Williamsburg you might want to check out hotels near RIC (Richmond International Airport). Although this wouldn%26#39;t be a very central location, it would be a shorter trip to Williamsburg. And if you are thinking of going to a Theme Park, definitely go to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, way better than Kings Dominion.

If you are in to architecture check out the Virginia Center for Architecture at 2501 Monument Ave. It%26#39;s practically in the museum district with a lot of other museums like the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. You could also check out the Poe Museum in the downtown area, the one-time home and now museum for the famous American author Edgar Allen Poe.

If you decide to stay near the Richmond airport, which would be convenient if you%26#39;re travelling between Richmond and Williamsburg, choose very carefully, as the quality and safety is all over the board. One place I can recommend in that area is the new Marriott Courtyard: marriott.com/hotels/…

and also the Homewood Suites Richmond Airport:

If you%26#39;re interested in Virginia history, there%26#39;s a very nice exhibit on the history of VA, as well as several other exhibitions going on currently at the Virginia Historical Society on the Boulevard in Richmond.
