Jamestown area restaurants

We are going to be leaving the settlement and touring the island before taking the sunset cruise. Where is a close but good restaurant for our family of 6, ages 2-10?

Jamestown area restaurants

If you mean a sit-down restaurant, you might like one of these: Five Forks Diner at the intersection of John Tyler and Ironbound, Cities Grille or Soya (shopping center on John Tyler Highway), or the Polo Club (Colony Square, Jamestown Road). We have the usual fast-food suspects within easy driving distance, such as Subway, Taco Bell, Burger King, Chick-Fil-A. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much!

There are two other delightful local favorites near the Jamestown area -- the Carrot Tree and the Jamestown Pie Company. Both are on Jamestown Road (the main route between Williamsburg and the Island/Settlement area)-- the Carrot Tree at 1782 Jamestown Road, and the Jamestown Pie Company a block or two south across from the 7-11. Both have wonderful menus with sandwiches, salads and pizza, which would make for great family fare. Perhaps calling ahead, taking out, and eating picnic style at Jamestown Island or along the Colonial Parkway wold be a fun family event before your sunset cruise. Here%26#39;s a link to each of them: http://www.carrottreekitchens.com/kitchen.htm

What do consider a ';good'; resturant for your needs? Fast food, sit-down casual, sit-down nice?

You have many options within 5-10 minutes. A price range would also help.

For a family of 6 with young kids I%26#39;m guessing casual-correct me if I%26#39;m wrong. Polo Club on Jamestown Rd used to be a favorite burger %26amp; casual place, it has gone way downhill since the boys sold it many years ago - skip it if it was part of your consideration.

Carrot Tree is not open for dinner and doesn%26#39;t usually appeal to younger kids unless they like soup and sandwiches, it%26#39;s more a great dessert and fancy sandwich place - I love the devils food cupcakes - stop in on the way to the island and get some treats.

You could head to Monticello Marketplace area for shackelford%26#39;s (burgers, salads) 2 fast food options, subway, or a few more minutes to New Town and have pizza, casual dining options - both a little more as far time goes than staying on Jamestown Rd - with limited options. You could also get sandwiches to go before you head to Jamestown from Charly%26#39;s at the airport (or any number of places) and eat overlooking the river, as long as you have a way to keep the food stored properly.

You have so many options - an idea of ';good'; would help us help you.

There is also a Jamestown forum!

';There is also a Jamestown forum!'; yes, we know. As you know, the place where a visitor will receive more replies is on the Williamsburg forum. Many visitors combine with Jamestown/Williamsburg and the surrounding area and as you know for years it seems the place they choose to post questions is here.

I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s important which forum love2goKaqnsas choose to use - they will get help either place -more replies and in a timely manner on the Williamsburg forum.

I%26#39;m with you bridgefan. I really don%26#39;t get why TripAdvisor made two separate forums...there%26#39;s absolutely no need. I get the impression that newbies to Williamsburg expect (or will come to expect) to find a little village of shops %26amp; attractions around Jamestown kind of like what exists around the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Not so.

Simply put there is not Jamestown ';area';. Jamestown simply consists of the original Jamestown Island site and the Jamestown Settlement location where you can tour the museum and board the ships. Both of which are at the end of Jamestown Rd. The only other things to note are the fact that you can hop onto one end of the Colonial Parkway right at Jamestown and if you pass the settlement you come to the ferry which goes from Jamestown Rd to Surry.

There are no shops or restaurants at Jamestown other than the museum gift shop and cafe which exist on-site.

I live within walking distance to Jamestown and my mailing address reads ';Williamsburg, VA'; not ';Jamestown, VA';.

I would go one step further and say that having a separate Jamestown forum divides and diminishes the information flow and it ought to be eliminated.

Some time ago on this forum I proposed conflating the Williamsburg and Jamestown forums into one, possibly called ';Williamsburg area';. That would make the best use of resources like Marymac, our Jamestown Destination Expert, and all the rest of you who are so very close on the ground.

I opt out of that effort, since I don%26#39;t specialize in Jamestown at all, but if people with more skin in the game agree, it might be proposed to TA.

Poor little Jamestown Forum, all alone and feelin%26#39; blue!!Just sitting there waiting for someone to come a%26#39; callin%26#39;!!! JUST KIDDING PEOPLE!! I agree, it wouldn%26#39;t hurt to combine the two forums, it%26#39;s a pretty confusing area, (the triangle) to someone who has never been there before. I understand what Chazz is saying about Jamestown not being a town, (area), like, say, Yorktown is. And nomo%26#39;s suggestion about calling it the ';Williamsburg Area'; is good, too. But I guess people who are planning on coming to the area and have already checked out a few things about it, know about Jamestown and Yorktown, and know that they can get all the info on the Williamsburg forum. So basically it%26#39;s already combined. No problem as far as I%26#39;m concerned.

But getting back to the original question....the is another possibility, depending on the time available after you finish touring the island....

Go back past the Jamestown Settlement and turn left for the Virginia DOT ferry to Surry. It%26#39;s about a 20-minute ferry ride across the river, and from there a 5-10 minute ride to the Surrey House Restaurant (just keep going straight ahead after you get off the ferry and it%26#39;s on your right just beyond the first traffic light). It%26#39;s a family-run, simple, straight-forward place that%26#39;s super-clean, kid-friendly and offers straight-up family fare -- pork chops, chicken-fried-chicken, fried chicken, burgers, sandwiches, salads, home-made soups -- literally something for everyone at very reasonable prices.

We vacationed in the area earlier this month and went over twice we liked it so much!

Just remember to leave time for the ferry back to Jamestown in time for your sunset cruise.
