Hi
I know this may seem like a daft question, but I am planning my trip to CW in July and trying to work out how large the centre of the historic city actually is. I have been on the website and looked at lots of maps, but I am just trying to get a sense of perspective.
Can anyone advise me roughly how long would it take to walk direct from the Governor%26#39;s Palace to the Capitol building without stopping?
Thanks
DistanceYhe Historic Area is about 1 mile in length, and about 1/2 mile in width. It%26#39;s about a mile from the Wren Building on the campus of the College of William %26amp; Mary on the far west end down Duke of Gloucester to the Capitol on the far east end. A slow stroll would then take roughly 20 - 25 minutes. It would take 15 minutes or less to walk from the Governor%26#39;s Palace to the Capitol Building.
DistanceGreat thanks!!
If you have purchased any of the CW passes, you can show your ID card to ride the free shuttle busses with circle the perimeter of CW every 5 - 10 minutes.
Has anyone besides me ever noticed how the layout of CW is so similar to the National Mall in Washington D.C. - both of them are a mile long, with the Capitol at the east end, and the White House / Governors Palace at the west end.
Oh yes, MarylandMist, another example of the influence of Colonial Virginia on our national heritage!
And did you know that the Royal Governor of Virginia that designed Williamsburg, Sir Francis Nicholson, was also governor of Maryland and laid out your capitol, Annapolis?
