Here is a quick trip report from my trip to Williamsburg May 1-3rd.
My wife and I decided to make our first trip to Williamsburgo a two day to trip - so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
We arrived at CW reception center around 11am and picked up our passes and decided to take the walk to CW instead of taking of the shuttle shuttle. Our first stop was at Kings Arm Tavern for lunch. The food was a little pricey, but overall good. I ended up getting the corn chowder soup and beef steak and my wife had the Peanut soup and a sandwich. Afterwards, we decided to take the tour of the Govern Palace. Our guide was outstanding and it was interesting learning about the history of the Palace. Before we knew it, it was already 5pm and the buildings were starting to close. We left for a couple hours to check into a timeshare and to rest our feet before the Tavern Ghost Walk later that night. As other people have mentioned this is a great way to spend about an hour hearing ghost stories. Next time, I come to CW I need to add a few more days to my vacation. I didn’t realize how much CW had to offer and we missed pretty much every tour due to our time constraints.
On Saturday, we decided to go to Busch Gardens to have a little fun. Overall, the park was in excellent condition and clean. Busch Gardens has done a good job in putting in some great roller coasters. However, I was disappointed in was the amount of rides. Within 6 hours we have ridden every ride at the park once and some of them twice. For the amount of rides it wasn’t worth the price of the ticket.
For our trip we stayed at the Greenspring Vacation Resort. If you’re thinking about staying here – I would recommended. We stayed in building 1 and overall the rooms were in excellent condition. The Resort was about 7 miles from the tourist spots.

Thanks for your trip report. You stated what so many other first time visitors say---people don%26#39;t realize how much CW has to offer. There is plenty to keep you interested and occupied for several days.
Your short visit gives you a good reason to return! I%26#39;m so glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Hi, Bouncer -- thanks for posting back, that is so helpful to the forum.
You said a couple of things that future first-timers should really listen to: **Before we knew it, it was already 5pm and the buildings were starting to close** and **we missed pretty much every tour due to our time contraints**.
This, unfortunately, can happen in Colonial Williamsburg and there is no way to fix it as long as buildings are only open 9am-5pm.
The problem is that there is so much to do. Of course you want to stroll down the charming streeets, taking in the architecture and peering into gardens. Of course you want to step into the colonial shops, pick up a snack at the Raleigh Tavern Bakery, have your picture taken here and there, and chat with the interpreters who are randomly sitting and standing about, pursuing their ';daily tasks'; and ready to talk with you about them. You absolutely cannot pass up street theater if you happen upon it, or the Fifes and Drums if they come marching along.
And we haven%26#39;t even talked about watching the orientation movie at the Visitors Center, shopping for books and souvenirs, or looking around the William and Mary campus.
If you could get into 3 or 4 buildings for interior tours on your first day, you%26#39;d be doing extremely well. And there are dozens of interiors to see.
Colonial Williamsburg takes 2 days, absolute minimum, to see in any depth at all. More, if you have strong interests.
I have 3 suggestions for extending a visitor%26#39;s day: 1-save the museums for last, since they are open until 7pm (5pm in winter). 2-have dinner, not lunch, in a tavern. 3-see an evening program. You wouldn%26#39;t be able to do all three in one evening, but you could do any combination of two.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences and insight. Hope you have many more visits in the future!
