My husband, my 3 1/2 year old sons and I will be coming to Virginia in June. We will definitely be heading to Busch Gardens/Water Country USA and are also debating a trip to Kings Dominion.
We are only planning to stay 4 days/3 nights. Is it too much to plan to go to both Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion in one trip? Also, from NYC, which is further, Bush Gardens or Kings Dominion? If we stayed in Newport News, would that be inconvenient for both places or would we be better staying closer to Kings Dominion? Also, besides the amusement parks, any other activities recommended for two 3 1/2 year old boys?
Finally, I need a hotel where we can have a suite so that the boys can go to sleep in the bedroom and my husband and I will not disturb them with the tv.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Busch Gardens/Kings Dominion questionsIf you are going to be driving south on Interstate 95 you will pass Kings Dominion on your way to Busch Gardens. My daughter and two granddaughters went to Kings Dominion this year when enjoyed it (the water park and some of the rides were not open yet). We are also going to Busch Gardens in July and will stay at the Great Wolf Lodge (we booked a suite-type room so that my wife and I can stay in one room and the girls in another room-check it out on-line). My recommendation would be to stay in the Busch Garden area as there is much to do in Williamsburg plus more options for hotels. Can%26#39;t help with suggestions for the 3 and 1/2 years olds besides Busch Gardens and the water park.
Busch Gardens/Kings Dominion questionsHello, we went to Kings Dominion last year for 4 days in August and stayed at the Embassy Suites in Richmond, VA. My girls were 10 and 5, and both had a ball.
Have you had any luck with finding accomodations closer to the park? We will be going again in July and I am not feeling very comfortable with the mixed posts for the hotels within 10 miles of the park.
The park is EXCELLENT for young children, especially Nickelodean fans. We met Dora, Diego, The Rugrats, and several other characters. The park is huge, with something for the entire family. They have a nice water park complete with seperated wading %26amp; wave pools. I enjoyed the rides, shows, attractions, and especially the food! It was a great family atmosphere with NO smoking except designated areas, NO profanity, and NO exuberant PDA. Very Kid Friendly!
The only draw back was that the Embassy Suites (lovely hotel) was about 20 miles south of the park down 95. The morning commute to the park was horrible and of course, going with traffic. It took about 45 minutes each morning to get to the park and by the time we arrived both my husband and I were agravated and irritated with the commute.
We actually have changed our plans and will be staying in Newport News for 2 nights at the Point Plaza Suites and then instead of Kings Dominion will be heading to Virginia Beach for 1 night. We opted to have a relaxing last day instead of a 2nd amusement park.
We will be staying in Williamsburg in May and besides going to Busch Gardens, we%26#39;ve also decided to go to Portsmouth, VA where the children%26#39;s museum is located. We have a 3 1/2 year old and we thought that would be a nice and fun activity for her to do. I know it%26#39;s very close to Newport News, but also less than an hour away from Williamsburg. Hi BrooklynMom!
You will love the Point Plaza- very nice 3-diamond rated hotel. Full-service w/ restaurant, indoor pool (which your 3 1/2 year olds should love), etc. Hope you were able to get one of their Executive Suites, with the bedroom, living room, %26amp; kitchen- excellent for families w/ the bedroom closing off from the living room, TV%26#39;s in each room, and the living room%26#39;s couch being a pull-out, full kitchen nice for accommodating some meals to save money from eating out, etc. (Their other rooms are also very nice of course, but those suites really are so perfect for what you described you wanted!)
I%26#39;m glad you opted out of doing both parks on the same trip. While you all would have such a great time, in just 4 days, with 3 1/2 year old boys, they would be so exhausted- there is so much fun %26amp; excitement, paired with so much walking, and in the heat of summer, etc. I have just one 8-year-old, and we have frequented both parks, but never within a few days of each other- he is exhausted for several days after just 1 day at 1 of the parks. In the best way of course- from lots of fun, but yeah I do think that both parks would be a lot in one trip.
For additional recommended activities, you MUST check out the VA Living Museum, just 2 miles down the road from the Point Plaza. FASCINATING! I have no doubt all of you would love it. Here is the link- www.thevlm.org . Also, might want to try the VA Air %26amp; Space Center in Hampton, which is about 15 minutes from the Point Plaza. Also fascinating, and very hands-on - www.vasc.org .
Another great tidbit, Point Plaza sells discount tickets to the local attractions, including those that I mentioned and Busch Gardens, too!
Hope that is helpful. Have fun!
Thanks Eliziam1. We actually went last summer. We did love the hotel and we also loved the living museum. THe boys had a blast as did my husband and I.
Oh, wow, you know what? I didn%26#39;t see the date of the ORIGINAL thread, just saw the most recent reply that had %26#39;bumped%26#39; it- they had jumped onto your post from last year asking their own question %26amp; that %26#39;bumped%26#39; it on up with the recent threads, %26amp; I totally %26#39;took the bait%26#39;! Sorry about that! Well, glad you had a nice time last year, lol.
