Birthday Lunch/Early Dinner

My husband is turning 30 next month and I have something planned in the Lexington area for his birthday, and would love to have some suggestions for a nice place to eat lunch/early dinner on a Saturday or Sunday. Because of prior plans we will need something that is pretty casual (jeans, t-shirt) and friendly service/atmosphere. Not looking for any type of food in particular, but I would like to take him somewhere kind of nice but then again not too pricey. Too much to ask? Hope you can help!

Birthday Lunch/Early Dinner

Try the Bistro (540-464-4888) or Southern Inn (540-463-3612).

The Bistro has a wine bar, the Southern Inn a bar if there is a waiting line. Both are on Main Street, one block apart. Menus are posted.

Birthday Lunch/Early Dinner

The Bistro or Southern Inn are both excellent choices.

Very casual.

All of Lexington is very casual.

The Bistro is an excellent restaurant with a great atmosphere. It isn%26#39;t too pricey or formal, and it has a loyal following. But...you don%26#39;t have to take my word for it, because it was featured in September 2007 issue of Southern Livng magazine:

';At Bistro on Main, it%26#39;s the beef. That%26#39;s what makes this restaurant%26#39;s Bistro Burger the best in teh area and possibly tops in the entire commonwealth.

';Owner Jackie Lup buys only Virginia-grown organic beef from Polyface Farm in nearby Swoope. Thick and juicy, the 6-ounce patties are formed by hand and then seared over an open flame. Fresh lettuce and sliced tomatoes, harvested in peak season, add the perfect touch. You can pile on bacon, Cheddar, mushrooms, or onion, but in my mind, you don%26#39;t need all that. This burger stands alone.

';Located on Lexington%26#39;s Main Street, just a couple of blocks from Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, the Bistro opened in 2003 and has quickly become a favorite with locals. Stop by, and you%26#39;ll see why. Butter-yellow walls, regional art, and jazzy tunes make it a comfortable and inviting place to relax and enjoy a meal.

';Jackie%26#39;s menu is vast, with selections ranging from burritos to crab cakes, but the hamburger has ranked among the top sellers since opening day. %26#39;People love it,%26#39; says Jackie. %26#39;They really do. There are just a few items taht I serve at both lunch and dinner, and that%26#39;s one of them.';

Not sure if you have already been to Lexington. Christopher%26#39;s is a great place to eat. It%26#39;s a small restaurant on Washington Street. Easy to find (as is everywhere in Lexington). They are a steak and seafood restaurant and casual too. They have a pretty wide price range so you can eat reasonably if you choose. Hope you enjoy wherever you eat!

Try Cafe Michel for an early dinner on Saturday! The No. 1 restaurant in Lexington. Jeans are fine! www.cafemichel.com
