HI,
We ared headed to CW for our second trip. We are trying to make sure we fit in some of the tours/programs we missed the first time.
We are interested in the Military Review on Market Square and the Bits and Bridles walking tour. Both are free, but Bits %26amp; Bridles requires reservations. We will be in CW on a Fri. and Sat..Bits %26amp; Bridles tour is Sat. Can I reserve it Fri? Should I reserve earlier? Would it be o.k. for kids 3 %26amp; 6? My 9 year old will be fine %26amp; is anxious to see the horses and carriages. It%26#39;s an hour long so I worry about my youngest getting antsy/bored.
The other two programs we might want to participate in are in the evening. DD *thinks* she would like Papa said/Mama said better than the Lanthorn tour. It would most likely be just my DD %26amp; myself %26amp; DH can keep up w/ the boys elsewhere. lol. Which program would you recommend for an almost 10 year old girl? She LOVES history and is learning about slavery in school now, which is influencing her choice. I just wanted to hear some opinions, hopefully from parents/families who have taken children.
Thanks for any info. you can give me!
Bren
P.S. I tried to talk DD into a dance program, but she has an overwhelming fear of being asked to participate. lol.
Best CW program....Lanthorn tour or Papa Said/ Mama Said?
Yes, reserve Bits %26amp; Bridles ahead of time. I think all would enjoy it, but have one parent prepared to peel off with the youngest ';just in case.';
I think the Papa Said, Mama Said program would be the better choice for you and your daughter. The Lanthorn tours are always good, but the Papa Said, Mama Said program is just wonderful! My recommendation is not only from personal experience, but also from observing attendees, including children, at the programs.
Dance Our Dearest Diversion demonstrates the 18th century dances and is great fun, but I%26#39;m certain she would be asked to participate, and if she would feel embarrassed to participate or to refuse, it might be better to skip that one this time around.
Best CW program....Lanthorn tour or Papa Said/ Mama Said?
Zoey,
Thanks for your ';reviews';. I have made reservations for both Bits %26amp; Bridles (for the entire family) and Papa Said, Mama Said (for just DD %26amp; I.)
We have our fingers crossed for beautiful weather and lots of flowers in bloom. Not sure when the Governor%26#39;s Palace Gardens hit their peak, but we are hoping for at least a bit of color. They were quite lovely when we visited last October.

I just visited CW with my family and my 10 year old daughter and I went to see Mama Said, Papa Said together. DON%26#39;T MISS IT - IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!! We had a tough day together - typical 10 year old stuff - and I was not in the mood to go out with her, but I was absolutely uplifted by the program and it is entirely appropriate for a child as well. The lead storyteller has the kids sit up front ';where they can see'; and really plays to them throughout the show. Have fun!!
The Governor%26#39;s Palace Gardens are at a spring peak right now -- the tulips are blooming, the wisteria is colorful, the dogwoods and fruit blossoms are beautiful and fragrant. Weather is forecast to be warm and nice, and the spring break crowds have subsided a bit.
Enjoy your visit.
