Beach nearby?

We%26#39;ll be in CW next week and I would love to be able to visit a sandy beach for an hour or so. Is there a nice beach closer than Virginia Beach?

Beach nearby?

There is a sandy beach on the James River, along the Colonial Parkway between Williamsburg and Jamestown. It is small but very pleasant. There is a strong tide there, however, so it is not advisable to go into the water -- there have been a few drownings there. But for shoreside walking, picnicing, or hearing the lap of the water, it%26#39;s a nice, close by place to visit.

There%26#39;s a nice river beach on the York River near the Riverwalk development in Yorktown.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I was thinking of an ocean beach rather than one on the river, but at this point any sand and water will be fine. The ones you mention sound lovely.

Our beaches are river beaches - we are located between two rivers. Our location is 40 miles inland from the ocean. But Buckroe Beach in Hampton is only about 25 miles and is on the Chesapeake Bay if you are looking for larger waves, a broader expance, or pier.
