11 year old birthday dinner? Help

Our family is heading to Williamsburg this week. First time visitors.

My daughter%26#39;s 11th birthday is Friday. I really wanted to do the Haunted Dinner Theater, but it is closed for the season :-(

I narrowed it down between Chownings or Bray Bistro at Kingsmill. (It has a Friday night seafood buffet.) I know it%26#39;s not as fun %26amp; entertaining, though.

I have 8 %26amp; 6 year old boys. One is a picky eater. I thought Chownings might not have anything for him.

At least the Bray Bistro seafood buffet, he%26#39;ll have choices.

I really wanted to do something fun and different, since it is her birthday.

Are there other fun, entertaining restaurants for families that I am missing?

Any opinion or other recommendations welcome.

Thank you so much!

Although the food is not as good as Bray Bistro - for a Friday night I would consider going to the deck at the marina in Kingsmill. Outdoors - the kids can actually play in the water at the small beach area and walk the area and see the boats, fish or build sand castles.

Usually they have a one-man-band Jimmy Buffet kind of guy - call and see who is playing the Friday of her birthday. Fun, casual, relaxed atmosphere - packed with locals. Mention her birthday and he%26#39;ll sing to her - and so will the rest of us.

I just called and asked who would be playing friday - they don%26#39;t know yet. Call again in the middle of the week. 253-1703. Without music still fun.

Thanks for the tip. I did notice the Marina and it looked nice.

I was hoping for something really different. I am surprised that WB doesn%26#39;t have more different kind of entertainment dining.

Thanks again.

Most people would consider an 18th century tavern different! Nowhere else in the world can you dine in Colonial Williamsburg!

I do think they are different - I don%26#39;t think the food is great or worth the price.

Most tourists gravitate to the chains - so do many locals.

The immediate area is quite small, the restaurnat business is tough and quite competive. They need to appeal to as many diners as possible.

Hi, Mom -- I think you are on the right track, if you seek dinner shows like a Medieval Times banquet or a Hawai%26#39;ian luau, to go outside Colonial Williamsburg itself. CW is the preeminent living history museum in the world, and although entertainment is definitely a value, it is subordinate to research and education.

If you want some interactive fun for the kids using the remarkable resources of this institution, have them make a video about the birthday celebration of an imaginary 11-year-old girl in the 18th century. That way, during your visit, they can dig into what is known about children and society in the colonies and have the fun of being creative with what they%26#39;ve learned. You can rent costumes at the Visitor Center and you will find interpreters ready and willing to discuss childhood with your kids. Some restraint will be called for inside the buildings, of course, but otherwise the whole restored area is their set!

It might turn out to be a new YouTube sensation! Happy birthday to your duaghter.

Hi!

I would strongly recommend dinner at one of two taverns...either Kings arms or Christiana Campbells tavern. It is a true colonial affair. The food has had very good reviews this year!!!

IF you do not prefer the ';Colonial'; feel, try Kyoto%26#39;s japanese restaurant. They are a hibachi style restaurant where they cook your food in front of you as they interact with the kids and amuse them with their cooking..Yes, they have chicken and beef!...Our kids have always loved it. Mention it is a birthday and you will get a great song with cake!
