Royal Oaks Cabins -- Love, VA

Hi

No I haven%26#39;t been able to find out any other information unfortunately.

I looked at them a couple of years ago. We were out riding around and came across them. The people let me have a key to look in one of the cabins. From what I remember, the cabin was nicely kept, and had a large tub (for 2). It was on the small side.

The area is isolated.....and I do mean that. If you wanted to go to dinner, you are looking at a 35 minute drive and then it certainly wouldn%26#39;t be fancy.

Have you looked at Wintergreen, VA? It is really a nice resort....more condo%26#39;s than cabins, but more choices.

Wonderful, thanks for the info.

I%26#39;m aware of Wintergreen.

I spent some time in the cabins. The cabins were relatively clean and well decorated. The site was close to Sherando Lake and nothing else. This was great for star gazing, hiking, touring the Blue Ridge and romantic solitude. Not so great if you want to visit the wineries or other local sites. The website was an honest representation of the resort. The cabins look exactly as pictured. The cost was too much for the limited amenities especially in comparison to other area B%26amp;B%26#39;s. Housekeeping costs extra. Bring your own food. The host seemed very interested in marketing and informing us of the area. Unfortunately, he was verbally abusive to his staff. Also, he performed a ceremony for us but was completely unprepared despite forewarning. This is the only reason we stayed at the resort and made this very clear to the celebrant. We would have preferred he told us he was too busy. Instead, he took our money (ahead of time)and performed a substandard job. It seemed he was very nice and well meaning but overwhelmed by the tasks of running the property. He seemed unable to share the tasks with staff members. We had such high hopes. Perhaps if we had visited at another time we would have had the time we imagined. The resources were there but the result was quite disappointing.

If you want to stay in a nice cabin in teh Shenandiah Valley check out AllStar Lodging in Luray. They have some beautiful cabins. Just ask to speak with Carlos.

We are coming in for the Thomas-Lastinger Wedding...

The place was fairly nice, and located conveniently close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the owners are by far the most amoral, scurrilous, penny pinching lot I have ever encountered. A friend of mine and I were biking the Trans-America route across country when we called the cabins accidentally thinking it was the forest service campsite. My friend was having knee problems and we decided to cut our day short. The guy on the phone told us it would be senseless to ride four miles down the road, down a huge hill, when we could easily camp on their property for a small fee. All the cabins were booked by fellow cyclists, and we felt really welcome, until the next morning. We realized that the guy who let us stay was the owners%26#39; son and they were quite unhappy with his act of kindness. According to them, treating their customers with respect is not the right way to do business, and while my injured friend and I were waiting on a ride the owner came up to us and told us very rudely to leave his property. He was quite irate and was carrying his granddaughter in his arms, followed by his burly son-in-law, apparently in case of conflict. As we were leaving, I thanked him for having such a big heart, and he snapped, got in my face with his finger and told me not to get sarcastic with him, he was trying to run a business. Apparently his idea of running a business is abusing his customers. We paid a fee simply to pitch a tent, and spent close to $30 on EXPIRED food at his country store, including our lunch minutes before he approached, yet he felt we were loitering on his property. And to top it all off the site where we camped had a rotting, severed deer foot in the grass. DO NOT STAY AT THIS RESORT! Well that is unless the owner dies and leaves the property to his son, who treated us with nothing but respect.
