please help, need assistance from the UK!!!

I am asking for a friend who is travelling with his family from the UK. They are spending sometime in the washington DC area and doing the historical tour, then heading to Williamsburg Va. From That point they have 3 nights to drive to Cincinatti, where they will fly home. They want to get off the beaten path and see some cool sights and maybe see bluegrass, nature, country, etc. not really the theme parks as they have already done those. they have two girls, approx 9 and 12? Does anyone have a suggestion driving from Williamsburg to Cincinatti and where to stop along the way???? I would mch appreciate your help!!!

I%26#39;d suggest a stop at Charlottesville to see Monticello, Thomas Jefferson%26#39;s home. Staunton has the Frontier Culture museum. They might want to drive a short portion of Skyline drive.

In West Virginia, a stop at Tamarack in Beckley is well worth the time.

You may want to post your query in West Virginia and Kentucky, as they will be driving through those states, and the people in those forums will no doubt have some good ideas.

thanks, will do!

The Museum of American Frontier Culture in Staunton, VA (directly beside motorway #81) is a group of 3 plain farmhouses built in different styles, representing the English, Ulster Irish, and German pioneer cultures, with costumed re-enactors.

Charlottesville, VA is ranked on many lists as one of the best cities in the USA to live or retire to. Tour Jefferson%26#39;s mountaintop home, ';Monticello'; there.

There are several underground cave tours in Virginia - one of them is in Grottoes, VA, a few miles north of Staunton - dress warmly.

thank you!

If they are making at stop at Monticello, they might also want to make time to visit Ash Lawn-Highland, the home of President Monroe, and Montpelier, the home of James and Dolly Madison.

In and around Cincinnati they might want to check out a few of the following: the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, the Riverdown horse race track, a cruise on one of the riverboats, the zoo and aquarium.

Hi, Sherry -- I realize the Cincinnati airport is actually in Kentucky, but unless they have a very tight timeframe to catch their flight, they should think about crossing the Ohio river and having a look at this very nice city. Cincinnati is unique in American history and culture because it is clearly where the North stops and the South begins. Add to the attractions RQT has already described, the brand-new National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. This museum details the work of 19th century Northerners who assisted slaves escaping the South by using the network known as the Underground Railroad. An interesting ';bookend'; to the exposition of southern slavery in Williamsburg!

Best regards to your friends.

I am sorry I%26#39;m not on this trip!!! thanks you!!! all these ideas are being passed on!much appreciated!
