Oceanfront Inn or no?

Planning on a short (4 night probably) trip to VB the first week of August..

One place we%26#39;ve found on the water is the Oceanfront Inn and as usual it has a mix of good and bad reviews.. I don%26#39;t know who to believe! (example, all the management responses say they removed the plastic from the mattress, yet the newest review from 2 days ago said the mattress had the plastic).

At a pretty high price of $160 per night we don%26#39;t want to be disappointed. Is this place worth it (clean, comfortable, etc) or is there another oceanfront suggestion?

A lot of the places I%26#39;ve found are across the street from the ocean and we don%26#39;t really want that (if it can be avoided, unless there is a really good view and much more comfortable).

thanks for your help

Oceanfront Inn or no?

my family likes the howard johnson oceanfront. although we dont care about much except a place to sleep. if you want oceanfront there are at least a dozen of them and the ones across the street arent to bad. we usually go 2-3 times a month. stay at a different one each time but never had anything bad to say about any one we stay at.

Oceanfront Inn or no?

Don%26#39;t know about rates but here are a few we have personally stayed in and/or a friend has:

-Courtyard Oceanfront South and North location

-Fairfield Inn Oceanfront

-Springhill Suites Oceanfront

-Capes Resort Hotel

-Hampton Inn Oceanfront

To name a few.

And $160 per night in August isn%26#39;t at all high price that%26#39;s pretty reasonable in VA beach. We are trying to find a good deal for the weekend prior to school starting at the end of August it is a little expensive for the hotels we looked up. The ones listed above will probably be higher than the non-chain hotels.

I ended up deciding on Breakers Resort Inn.. for better or worse.. I wanted to give my fiance an in-room jacuzzi.. lol.

I forget which hotel it was that I had seen, but it was inland a couple of blocks and had great reviews, and only like $80/night.. find that one and you%26#39;ll be set!

I would not recommend Breakers... I stayed there when we were in closing on our house and had already moved out of our rental. I found an empty condom wrapper on the floor next to the bed and an open bottle of liquor still in the refrigerator. Thank goodness I don%26#39;t have kids or I would have been LIVID. I pointed it out to the housekeeping manager and they didn%26#39;t seem bothered by it, and the manager (owner, whatever he was I don%26#39;t know) made me late for work asking me questions about it and STILL charged me full price for the room. He offered to give me a free water bottle with their hotel logo, or breakfast from the cafe, which I declined both of them. (Why would I want to eat there when they don%26#39;t even know how to clean their rooms?!?) I made sure he knew I would tell every tourist I met not to stay there, since I worked in a restaurant right down the street. Then suddenly he wanted to comp the room and reinburse my money, which is not what I was asking... but I threw $20 on the desk and told him I could have gotten a room at the Tropicana for $20, and they are just as dirty, so thats what I thought his room was worth too.

I got a letter of apology in the mail, but I would never recommend that place ever. Bottom line, in this area you definitely get what you pay for. And your best bet is to stay in a chain hotel if you are unsure because at least then there is a corporate backing that you can go to if you have problems.

Sorry, just my 2 cents...

Just stayed at the Residence Inn at VB, right on the beach and it was great. I highly recommend it. It is pet friendly which was a plus for us. Great location, great breakfast, great view.
