In need of a nice safe hotel for single female near Arlington where my WWII decorated uncle will be laid to rest. I am flying in and hope I can get a shuttle; if not perhaps the Metro??
There will be others coming in and I hope we can all find a location together and I was asked to look into it. Kind of confused when reading reviews so I thought I%26#39;d turn to the experts.
Thanks for all your help,
Gracie

First off Metro stops right at Arlington Cemetary. So look for something close to a Metro stop.

I would look in two directions:
Crystal City/Pentagon City part of Arlington
One/two stops from Arlington Cemetery. Most if not all hotels have shuttles from Reagan National Airport (DCA). Easy to get into DC. Easy to get to Arlington Cemetery. Lots major chain hotels... Marriotts, Hyatt, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, Embassy Suites, Residence Inn, etc. Safe place with lots of dining options within walking distance.
To give you an idea what is around each stop...

Pentagon City

Rosslyn, VA
One stop from Arlington Cemetery. Not sure what if any hotels have shuttles to and from DCA. There is a Marriott, Holiday Inn, and others. Safe place with lots of dining options within walking distance.

BTW, if you open up those StationMasters maps you can click on the red blocks for info on hotels.
If you post your dates, I would be happy to poke around and see what I can find for you.

Wow Kvandy,
thanks so much for all the info!
The service is planned for April l6, so I will arrive the day before and leave the day after.
I havent changed my screen name --as I am no longer located in Virginia - have moved on down to SC or I%26#39;d just drive up and back! Thats on the list...
I am worried that April is right smack in the middle of cherry blossom time and hotels are filling up fast.
That was the first date we could get to do a ';dual ceremony'; - should be interesting! I want to be close enough that any of my family members who may want to visit won%26#39;t have to do a lot of driving to my hotel.
There are many - coming from all over - and I am sure there will be a huge group effort to get together.
I have no problem using cabs when needed; but it would be great to be able to walk or use the metro. I dont see myself going into DC itself those days; I%26#39;ve been many times as I lived in VA.
I am just not familiar with Arlington, except for passing by the Pentagon on the way into town. So I appreciate the sites you offered.
Thanks again for your quick and helpful reply!
Gracie - now SC!
Gracie --
I have not forgotten about my offer to poke around using your dates. I did a quick scan and oh boy (no offense) not a great time to come.
I will do a more in depth search this weekend.
One quick question -- how many (approx) are coming?
Didn%26#39;t want you to think I forgot.
Kvancy - thank you so much!
I have been surfing the web for days - amazed how the prices jump in April - must be the Cherry Blossoms..or Business men.
I am thinking of calling a few hotels and explaining we are not ';tourists'; or on business and maybe they will give us a break.
Right now I dont know how many are coming - I do know from FLA and Sc there are about l0-12..Many from NY and PA but they could possibly do a day trip and stay somewhere on the return trip that is reasonable.
We have to be there early and I am actually staying two nights -
If I do bit the bullet and pay the exhorbitant price -which hotel in your experience is worth the $300 or so after taxes, fees, etc?
I had stayed at a KIMPTON in DC before and thought about the PALAMAR in Arlington..are taxis available
in the area? (thinking nighttime)
Thank you again for all your efforts. It%26#39;s just nice to have someone with the knowledge of the area.

Gracie - I am doing the same for my father%26#39;s funeral at Arlington in Mid-May. Got a decent price for the Marriott Crystal City and it looks like it was renovated in 2008. Looking at reviews now.
I%26#39;ll keep a watch on the feedback and info you get. I too need several hotel rooms and was wondering if any offer special ';Arlington'; rates.
Hi JackPaddy,
I got a quote of $329 from the Marriott; but perhaps you spoke personally to them; I used the web site. I think I may get on the phone and try a few. Did you choose Marriott for the location or the rate?
I am so unfamiliar with the area; I am just looking at the maps with the hotels on them and have chosen the opposite direction (Rossyln) from Crystal city..perhaps I have made a mistake, but the Hyatt quotes they are FOUR blocks from Arlington and that was of interest to me.
I do hope some savy hotel will advertise ';Arlington Rates'; and GIVE BACK to those that have served our country with honor. I doubt that will occur, but in this economy I do not know many folks that can fork out these prices - in addition to airfare, meals, transportation.
I%26#39;m a bit frustrated so I am venting - but it just doesnt seem right that a rate I see today at $89 jumps to over $300 in April!
I guess that%26#39;s why I am not in the hotel business.
Let%26#39;s hope someone sees this and passes it to some Superior Being at one of the hotels in the area!
Thanks for your imput!
Gracie
The reason the hotels are high priced in April is the Cherry Blossom season.
March 28th - April 12th
Other than an inauguration, Cherry Blossom time is the busiest time of year.

Hi Kvandy, Yep I understand that; however it does end on the 12th - I am arriving on the l5th...so I would think in a circumstance not involving ';';cherry blossoms'; or business/gov%26#39;t'; , there could be a hotel in Arlington that gives ';bereavement'; rates - it could be a positive publicity tool for them-- by the way.
I am going with Priceline...I would think whatever hotel I get in the 4-3.5 star would be near the metro.
If not, I am sure they can hail me a cab.
It%26#39;s very disappointing that in these circumstances, one has to pay top dollar.
Thanks again for all the help from Everyone!
Gracie
Update on rates:
Sheraton National has $74 rates available during Cherry Blossom Festival and beyond. Hotwire%26#39;s travel ticker sent me the update so I did go log onto Sheraton%26#39;s website and they were actually accepting reservations for $74 for doubles and $114 for club floor..
Gracie
Book the Sheraton National at that rate!!! Good work!!
The Sheraton National is in kinda an odd location as is right on the border of Arlington Cemetery and Ft. Myers. It is not the most convenient to metro but I think they have a shuttle.
If they do have a shuttle to metro (probably Pentagon City) they you will have access to tons of restaurants. Pentagon Row is a great place to meet friends/family.

Good work!!!
