Thank you for your question.The get-together would be a gathering of about 20 middle-aged folks who would like to listen to some music which I will supply (not loud music) and have an informal meal which we might all supply in the form of a pot luck. I was wondering if any local hotels where I would book a room might allow us to use their pool, or if I stay in an Inn or B%26amp;B if they would have a patio or garden where we could gather.

I hosted a party similar to this at the Omni in downtown Richmond. I had a choice of a suite, a hospitality room, or a area of the pool that would be sectioned off for us. I ended up going with a large suite, and it worked out fine, but one of the other options may be more to your liking. I was able to bring in my own food and drinks. http://www.omnihotels.com/

If you want to go the B%26amp;B route, you may have better luck if enough of you are staying to rent the whole place. Otherwise they may be concerned about the effect of your party on other guests.
