My family is planning a vacation to Williamsburg in July. We all love history, including our 13-year-old son. We will be spending most of our time in Colonial Williamsburg, along with a day at Busch Gardens and the water park. I am overwhelmed by the number of lodging choices. We would like to stay at an inn that is unique to the area (not a chain hotel). I have looked at the Colonial Williamsburg properties, but many have mixed reviews. I believe that we have it narrowed down to three choices: Fife and Drum Inn, The Legacy of Williamsburg and the Williamburg Manor. Can anyone advise me on which would be the best choice? Thank you!
Help deciding on inns in Williamsburg
If you are staying for more than for days the Williamsburg properties are a great value. You get free admission to CW, the continental breakfast is pretty decent, they are on par with the chains in cleanliness and style. You don%26#39;t spend much time in your room anyway and the free admission to CW if you stay 4 nights or more offsets the other things. We have stayed at CW properties on each of our last 4 visits and have had good experiences each time. The Woodlands and the Lodge are nice because of their proximity yo the Historic area and the Visitor%26#39;s Center. I know this is slightly off topic for the info you were looking for, but I thought you might want to consider the CW properties.(No I don%26#39;t work for them!)
Help deciding on inns in Williamsburg
Thanks for your advise, I will look at those again. I was a little unsure, due to the mixed reviews.
The Williamsburg Lodge is a good choice. Remember, most bed and breakfasts such as The Legacy and Fife and Drums have cozy, quaint rooms for two. So a choice of one of those you mention may require two rooms with a teenager.
The Lodge would give you immediate access to the CW restored area, along with a magnificient pool and dining amenities. There may be CW ticket incentives as well. With a teenager, the Lodge would be a first recommendation.
Hi, deedee -- It sounds like you are leaning towards not so much ';inns'; as bed-and-breafast properties. Colonial Williamsburg simply does not have anything like that. The closest you can come is the Colonial Houses, but I wouldn%26#39;t hold out hope that any are still available for July.
If you are flexible as to style of accomodations, I agree that the Lodge is a good choice, and so is the Williamsburg Inn (don%26#39;t overlook the Providence Hall Wing of the Inn, which is more affordably priced but quite comfortable). There is nothing commercial about either (although the Lodge does have a conference center attached), and I would be surprised if they didn%26#39;t satisfy.
Best of luck!
Hi
We recently stayed at the Legacy Bed %26amp; Breakfast. I would recommend this place to anyone. Best B %26amp; B we have ever stayed in ( we travel extensively throughout the world). Host%26#39;s were great, breakfast lovely and the rooms clean and well thought out.
Great place.
Thanks to all for the wonderful information. After doing a lot of research, I have recently decided on the Legacy and was able to get a large suite that will accomodate the three of us. Many of the bed and breakfasts are currently having a summer special--book 3 nights and get the 4th night free--so we were able to book an extra night. Thanks again for the great advise!
