Hey Everyone! New here, and was hoping y%26#39;all might be able to help me out with a quick one-day trip I am planning. I am going to be starting at UVA Law School in the fall, but I am to this point totally unfamiliar with the charlottesville area. Since my girlfriend has also never been there, she suggested that we take Memorial Day and go spend a day enjoying the town. Trouble is, since I don%26#39;t know anything about the area, I don%26#39;t know how we are going to fill the day! I%26#39;ve been searching around, and thought that we might go check out a winery, maybe a quick hike or something, but I%26#39;m not sure... If any of you have any particular suggestions on things that you would recommend doing in one day in Charlottesville, it would be greatly appreciated! My girlfriend and I are both avid musicians, and she is very much the artist type, if that helps at all. I%26#39;m sure I should be giving you all more details, but really just looking for any and all suggestions on things a newcomer should do in Charlottesville (while maybe avoiding the overly trendy touristy stuff). Also, any suggestions on where we could head for a romantic dinner?
Thanks again!
Charlottesville on Memorial DayInstead of reinventing the wheel, use the search feature in the top of the forum. The answers you seek are already here to be discovered.
As for a hike, I recommend going to Crabtree Falls. It is a bit further south/west from Charlottesville.
Crabtree is the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi.

Nelson County Virginia is beautiful-no traffic light in the entire county! (So I have been told...)
Charlottesville on Memorial DayCongrats on UVA Law, and good luck. While the legal climate is a little hostile right now, UVA will undoubtedly set you up for success. And with law school, you know what they say: ';1st year they scare you to death. 2nd year they work you to death. 3rd year they bore you to death.';
As for this weekend, here are a couple of things to think about:
-Eat and drink at Mas, a trendy Spanish tapas restaurant. (http://www.mastapas.com/)
-Walk around the Downtown Mall (www.charlottesville.org/index.aspx?page=177). On Friday evenings after 5 pm, there is a free concert at the east end of the Downtown Mall (charlottesvillepavilion.com/fridaysafterfive/).
-Because you will be a UVA student, check out the Corner, a seven-block collection of bars, restaurants, and shops on University Avenue. You have to buy some UVA paraphernalia from Mincer%26#39;s (http://www.mincers.com/).
Well, those are just a few suggestions. For more, take jwhiteree%26#39;s suggestion and use the search feature. Previous posts have other great suggestions.
Best of luck to you!
For art interests,check out the McGuffy Art Center on 2nd St (walking distance from the Downtown Mall) and there are several galleries along and around the Mall. The UVA Art Museum is closed for renovation until September. Check The Hook and C%26#39;ville, the weekly magazines for music listings.
For a romantic dinner, Clifton Inn is a great place. Also, Savour on Emmet St is close to the campus. Check out a local favorite for breakfast- La Taza Coffehouse - close to downtown on Monticello Rd. It specialized in Cuban food and great coffee. It has outdoor eating as well.
Don%26#39;t forget about Monticello, although it will be very crowded over Memorial Day weekend but so will everything else in the city. Even the popular hiking trails will have quite a few people.
We have quite a few wineries to choose from, check out monticellowinetrail.com
It should be a nice weekend weather wise- enjoy!
Laura
