Hi,
I am researching for a long family weekend trip in late August to Virginia and am interested in a quiet beachfront town that is kid-friendly and has ocean front restaurants. Does Chincoteague fit the bill?

Chincoteague is a quiet shore town that is VERY kid friendly and has some great restaurants.
However, to clarify -- it isn%26#39;t on the ocean -- its on the bay in between Assateague and the mainland. Assateague is a park and Wildlife Refuge -- with miles and miles of fabulous beaches with no ugly condos, high rises, or boardwalk. Wild ponies, Sikh deer, and hiking and biking paths and a picturesque lighthouse are out here -- but no oceanfront restaurants.
You can get the feel for the restaurants by looking at the reveiews here on Tripadvisor -- there are many and there is a lot of seafood as well as other choices.
The speed limit everywhere is 25mph -- your kids are safe whereever they go. There is miniature golf, go karts, and a movie theater. EVERYTHING is family oriented -- no big nightclubs or bars.
You will love it -- but to be fair it is not on the Ocean!

Chincoteague is also one of the few quiet places that near a beach. Most are much noisier and busier.
Chincoteague is on an island and is surrounded by water like you%26#39;d expect. Assateague Island is the next island out and does have beaches on the Atlantic. It isn%26#39;t a long drive to the beach and can be interesting. Especially if the ponies are near the road.
Here%26#39;s a link to some pictures and information we put together. It should let you see what that area looks like.
