Mid-June/ would we ever need a jacket?

I just had a flash-back to my Ohio summers (growing up) and I can remember sitting in the car with the heater on and blankets around us to watch Fourth of July fireworks. What are the odds that we would need jackets in Virginia in mid-late June? Does it get cool in the evenings?

Mid-June/ would we ever need a jacket?

Yes, I would bring a light jacket, just in case.

';What are the odds that we would need jackets in Virginia in mid-late June?'; Slim if you are asking about Williamsburg. Other areas of Virginia, such as the mountains, odds higher.

Does that mean you might not want a jacket at some point? No

Why not check the weather 5 minutes before you walk out the door - decide if the temps warrant a jacket or not. Easy.

Everyone%26#39;s ';cool in the evening'; is not the same. I%26#39;ve never needed a jacket to watch the July 4 fireworks - some may have.

Bridge,

It%26#39;s not as easy as you might imagine. I have six children and several of them have recently outgrown their lightweight jackets. I hadn%26#39;t considered that I might need to purchase new ones until this thought occurred to me today. I have heard so much about Virginia being hot and humid in June that jackets never crossed my mind--until today.

Anyhow, I will purchase jackets now that a couple of you responded that we may, indeed, need them.

Thanks!

I think that%26#39;s a sound decision, Readaloud. Unless you want to buy souvenir sweatshirts for the family while you%26#39;re here, it%26#39;s a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater for each of you.

We had rain and temps in the 50%26#39;s Sunday, which is not all that common for the middle of May. You just never know, do you?

of course it%26#39;s easy - check the temps, if the temps, to you, are jacket weather, bring a jacket.

Has nothing to do with how many kids (I have 8, know all about packing clothes) or if they have jackets that fit. If everyone had a jacket that fit and the temps were supposed to be 100 would you bring a jacket? If the temps were supposed to be 40 and no one had a jacket that fit would you figure out what to do?

yes, quite easy. look a the forcast, decide what that means to your family

It is 48 degrees right now in Richmond, VA and I was wrapped up in a fleece blanket at a baseball game last night. Who would have thought that we could have this cool weather right before Memorial Day weekend? Check weather.com for our area the week before you come...but bring a lightweight jacket anyway, with a hood, should it rain.

Hi Readaloud,

Typically mid-late June is pretty warm and sometimes can be down-right hot, but it is VA weather after all, which is ever-changing at the drop of a dime- you may need light jackets in the evening (typically June evenings would be in the upper 60%26#39;s to lower 70%26#39;s here), or if you encounter a rain storm during your visit, which June has plenty of- jackets are always good as a just-in-case measure.

I%26#39;m glad you asked- don%26#39;t let some of the ';Negative Nellies'; ;) here make you feel bad for asking- after all, we are here to help!

Readaloud, please do not go to the expense of purchasing jackets for your children until you really need them. The possibility of the weather here in June being anything other than very warm and humid is remote. That said, I have learned from experience, one should always take along on your travels some cover-up just in case; a light sweater or even a long sleeved shirt should suffice. In the event some unplanned for weather occurs, you have a great excuse to buy some souvenir sweatshirts.

In the 10 years we have lived here, I have never worn a jacket in the evening. On the same note, I have never wore pants in the middle of May ( which I have done this year!) The weather is wacky but I would strongly suggest to forget the jackets..It is usually so hot a cotton tank top and shorts will be your wardrobe! Have fun and enjoy our pretty town!

Please don%26#39;t get mad at me innkeeper, but you gave me my laugh for the day. Were you really running around with no pants on? LOL!!!
